  • So interested in this film ...

... that I plotted the film at about 3 minute intervals and sent my notes to Eckard for comments.

In my opinion, this film would work better in another region of the USA, such as the Pacific Northwest, but Eckard had NW Missouri to work with, so that was that.

However, the river scenes definitely work best where taken.

This film is a strong reflection of the human condition experienced by poor young males, without some type of moral fiber, living outside a big city.

Edit: I did not rate this film as high as other reviewers. In retrospect, I think I would now rate it a 7, or C+.

  • Solid First Effort

I'm 61 and live near Portland, Oregon. I like movies, but am not a film student; the term makes me ill.

I wanted to know what he was made of, so Blake sent me a copy of his first movie, "A Simple Midwest Story."

Over the years, I've watched it several times. It's better than it should be, what made by a bunch of rural NW Missouri kids on first try.

What he did was reflect a life I lived on the farm for 20 years {only we didn't kill anyone, but some of the hands deserved it}. Life on a farm is different. You spend a lot of time alone. Decisions are often based on individual judgment.

On retrospect, I'd only give it a 7 as a film.
