These sort of a film is a must for history buffs. Absolutely astounding piece of history which depicts the commitment of very extraordinary men who served their country.

Some of the reviews seem to forget this film is based on truth and real lives. It didn't need to be a high budget movie and I guess it wasn't.

There are no spoilers here. It is a simple film, but yet it has a memorable story and characters. Some of the other reviews have reflected on relatives doing this job.

There are simply not enough good WW1 films. I rank this one in my top ten of this genre.

Credible acting and the story was well told.

I am amazed that this film does not carry greater reviews. I have never been a fan of Timothy Spall simply because as a teen I just didnt like his character in Auf Wiedersehen pet. I have realised may years later how much he has grown as an actor and it is easy to see why he accepted this part in a small film. He is superbly cast alongside Vanessa Regrave. Spall truly endears viewers to Lowry, offering an insight into his lonely life and why art meant so much to him.

Loved the pace and timing in this film. The colours and film sets were superb.

The film bought a tear to my eye at the end and I feel compelled to watch this again. Easy viewing. Loved it!
