I am not going to reveal anything, but I'll explain briefly my experience. Hopefully that will give people a good idea.
I remember seeing this film and enjoying it very much! So much so that I just had to look at the original play and see how it ended.
I REGRET that decision every time I look back. When the sequel comes out this November, it could ruin the experience for me.
My advice would be to not to scrutinize the this when comparing it to the original 1939 classic. It takes well-known characters and creates a spin-off that has an original interpretation of them. If you feel the same way, it should be an easy 10/10. I cannot help but remember the original, so that was the only downside. My problem, no reflection of the play or the film itself.

One of the strongest features required of a great film is character development and arc. I enjoyed Colman's performance very much and I enjoy the screenplay and the supporting characters as well. One thing that I believe could have been improved is the pace. What I mean is there are many holes in the film due to filmmakers' decision to cut scenes. Whether it was during or after production, I believe this film was warranted to go past two-hours. I cannot think of any other reason why they would leave out any scenes. Perhaps I'm wrong, but maybe I bought the wrong DVD. I want the full version and I want to know what I missed out on. As soon as the protagonist sees conflict rise, the movie gets more interesting and then after the height of the film ends, the rest of the film literally goes down with it and viewers are left with an ending that is beyond anti-climatic.
In short, the actors were wonderful with what they were given. But the poor decision-making behind the scenes mixed with adapting a novel into THIS just was not good enough. You cannot fit this film's entire narrative within two hours!
