I was hoping for something that was actually reminiscent of the "high praise" on the movie poster, but all I was subjected to was a dark ugly mess of scene after scene of depravity with almost no cohesion or plot at all. The whole movie is just a disjointed hodge-podge of "let's film something nasty happening in this nasty room/street and blend it in somehow". The main character is a devoid of any sort of personality or character, and is basically just a focal point for severe drug addiction and abuse in all it's ugly forms. He has a family that he has deserted in favor of heroin, and I have to wonder if the film makers view this as part of their comedy presentation? The only thing this flick has going for it is picture clarity and interesting comic-book lighting. I like fun trashy movies, including the Toxic Avenger and John Waters films, but they both leave this tripe in the dust. Avoid.
Guess I was expecting a quality bio along the lines of "The Founder or "Love & Mercy". This surely was not that. The nausea-inducing camera constantly flying, flipping, and flashing around every second or so, the constant roar of noise and craziness like something big was going to explode any second, and the over-the-top music-video barrage of sound and vision were more than I could stand. So glad I didn't see this in a theatre - what a disappointment to have to leave a major motion picture because of the ridiculous way the "story" was handled. While I did like that that the flick is about the manager and his mishandling of his client, I'd rather watch a mature movie than this childish, noisy nonsense. I've never been a fan of Elvis, and I was hoping that the film would change my way of thinking after watching an intelligent film made for any by adults, but I think I even enjoyed "Sid and Nancy" more, and it was an awful, disgusting movie.
