The pandemic showed us a vastly different stretch of life-one marked by isolation, fear, uncertainty, and a redefinition of our daily routines-unlike anything we had experienced in our otherwise predictable, fast-paced world. This profound shift in human behavior, relationships, and societal structures created a rare and compelling backdrop for storytelling. For filmmakers and writers, this period offered a fertile ground to explore new emotions, dynamics, and realities that could powerfully resonate with audiences. Yet, surprisingly, the film industry has largely underutilized this unique moment in history. Minus 31, however, stands out as a refreshing exception. It boldly steps into this uncharted territory, using the pandemic not just as a backdrop, but as a meaningful context to craft a story that feels authentic, timely, and emotionally layered.
The plot feels overly stretched, with noticeable plot holes. Given that the film is partly inspired by actual events, I tried to look up the real story to better understand what truly happened, however, I couldn't find all the details. It's understandable that certain elements were added or modified for dramatic effect-after all, it's a cinematic adaptation-but unfortunately, the dramatization doesn't always succeed in holding the viewer's attention. At several points, it lacks the narrative pull that could have made the story more engaging. Most actors did their job well or at least fine, but the plot failed them.
This movie is a complete waste of time, offering little to no substance. The lack of a coherent story line makes it hard to stay engaged, and the characters feel poorly developed. Overall, it fails to deliver on basic expectations. Maybe Gen Z will find something relatable in this movie, but for me, it left me completely disconnected. I struggled to find any meaningful connection with the plot or characters, and it just didn't resonate. It feels like I'm missing whatever appeal it might hold for younger audiences. Probably the story is written by a bot? Given the story line, it is quite likely.
