A young Omar Sharif, a stunning Faten Hamama, and Abdelhalim Hafez channeling Frank Sinatra ( if Frank had sung in Arabic), makes this a worthwhile diversion. The lives of four students as they make their way in 1950s Cairo. It's not overwrought or heavy handed even with the backdrop of lingering illness and presents a good balance of drama and comedy. The early scenes are light and fun especially the interaction of Abdelhalim and his two roommates. Interesting to see how Sharif brings the gravitas to every scene he's in whether he's the focus of action or not. Knowing the arc of his career, it's hard not to see Zhivago in his portrayal here. A good entry point for delving into classic Egyptian cinema.
