Hopefully death is just a long sleep is the only thing I can think of after watching this.
Few things actually scare me but this film made me want to go back to church. The visuals, the sound design, everything is perfectly executed here.
This film has one of the most horrifying depictions of the spirit realm I've ever seen. The makeup goes hard but it's amplified by the films tremendous sense of direction. The camera smashes rapidly between shots giving you the effect of being in a car crash, knocking you off balance and making every shot that much more believable. Some of the things in this film are almost lifted from my reccuring night mares which made me so much more creeped out.
I also felt so attached to these characters which made a lot of the film very hard to stomach. My only solace was they were definitely fing around and finding out at a certain point. But that sense of detachment didn't last long.
I genuinely hope I don't have nightmares. This is probably the first film I'm able to say that about in 10+ years.

I agree with some other reviewers, this movie is restrained and balanced in all the right ways. It plays to the found footage aspect expertly; revealing just the right amount of detail to keep things from going overboard.
Early on in the film I thought it might veer into "creepy ghost lady with long dark hair territory," but the combination of news clips and the way they all wove together it was just perfect. Again the movie uses the found footage aspect to its advantage.
Despite the many different segments, it still manages to keep the narrative going and tell one cohesive story that really comes together in such a brilliant way.
Watching this film really made me feel with what I sense is a growing sub genre of horror that is about looking back into the unknown and the lost things that might be left on video. Obviously this niche has become more prominent since this movie was released, but this really does feel like something special.
There's some issues with how long the stories book takes to present itself here. I feel like that's a convention for a lot of Japanese films though. But once the story does gets it's claws into you it's hard not to keep watching.
All in all just a really good movie.
