I watched the first episode when it first started...and stopped because I really didn't like it at all...why I did that I have no recollection now, because now that I have finished the entire series, I have lovingly, easily given it a perfect 10.
Perhaps it took me falling for every single one of these characters, no matter how "good" or how "bad" they are/were. And truth be known: Ruthie (Julia Garner) is my heart favorite. Julia Garner is not just a good actress, she is perfection in this role.
SO: if you haven't been able to get into this...please try again. You COULD be as amazed as I was.

Take each one separately and you will see the best acting and the most emotional writing in any current series. Instead of what has been called "a middling drama" you will see greatness.
I am an 80 year old retired psychologist and I am totally enchanted with each and every one of these characters. Life is messy, their lives are messy, and they find ways to deal with and cope with real situations. The acting is wonderful, the stories are wonderful, the filming is wonderful...Simple, free advice? Watch it.
