I did not like this film at all.
Being fond of musical theatre I found the film depressing and in parts creepy.
It's not a side of the genre I am comfortable with.
Also , it did seem like a sponsored promotion for the German production of Starlight Express.
The quality of filming and content was inconsistent with some of the shows included clearly not giving consent for inclusion.
For opera lovers, or indeed anyone, this is a truly lovely movie. Scored delightfully with Verdi's music from La Traviata, the story focuses on a taxi driver in Japan transporting an opera singer whose plane has been grounded by heavy snow.During the course of the journey he tells how he was personally involved in a Traviata type story in his own life. The parallels are cleverly scripted with an interesting resolution. The sad thing is that I only have an old TV copy on VHS and all attempts to purchase a DVD have failed. It seems to have vanished ? I would love a re-mastered copy of this film.Does anyone know where it may be available ?
