  • Good film but surpassed by Black Hawk down IMHO.

This is a worthy film that does everything it sets out to achieve, to bring the reality of war to an audience by literally re-enacting a factual event in great detail as it happened, and as recounted by the people who were actually there. This alone is impressive. The acting is good, the sets and details seem impressive.

On a critical level, it seems quite low budget compared to films such as Black Hawk Down which gives a broader view of a modern military conflict, with a more detailed look at other aspects of warfare, e.g logistics and the higher chain of command decision making which impacts on soldiers at the ground level.

Knowing a little of the history of the conflict it is quite depressing to think of all of that killing, destruction and sacrifice for what was ultimately achieved and revealed etc.

You can expect this film to be disheartening and quite sad, but I'm glad I saw it. Well done to all involved.

  • Dark comedy is the best description, excellent film.

Although Dark comedy is the best overall description for this film it is also difficult to neatly categorise. There is love, tragedy, tolerance, powerlessness, addiction and redemption there too. Some sadness must also be mentioned.

The characters are real, often tragic, caught up in a life they seem unable to escape from. You can care about some of the characters despite their flaws. The awkward moments are made more palatable by the often laugh out loud dark comedy.

Overall I would recommend this film, it could be watched more than once, it may even become a memorable film because it has a slightly unique feel to it. Enjoy!
