I don't find this movie very sad maybe because I have already visited the Massacre Museum in Nanjing twice know all about its history well so it doesn't shock or surprised me. It's like watching 2 movies interwined together, the opening scene tells me it's special and all to the brilliant end is satisfying: 1) a war epic movie that is very well made and scenes are mostly realistic. What surprised me is there are so many scenes and most of them appears for just a second to a minute the most, I think majority of the production cost went into it, a big waste I felt. The "river of blood" scene is memorable, 2) the thriller drama movie with the 8 protagonists that center around the photography studio. It's fairly fast paced, gripping and intense although some of the characters' behaviors and action aren't convincing to me in a few scenes but it's minor. This is the reason why I don't give it 10 but 9.
While such movie is expected to have a tragic end, I feel very satisfying at the end thanks to its brilliant arrangements and music which I should not reveal. I strongly recommend it to be watched in the theatre and not on TV.

While the movie is not good enough for any international film competition, the actings are okay and the script is good since it's based on true events. It's the most special movie made because Anwar is the present prime minister of Malaysia and it tells the story of why Anwar was jailed for going against prime minister Mahathir while he was the deputy prime minister. This movie was completed before Anwar won in the last election and become the prime minister. It leaves me thinking, why is Mahathir totally silent over the movie? Why didn't Mahathir take legal action against the producer and director? Isn't this the best proof that what's told in the movie must be true?
I am not a Thai. Due to some technical fault I can't read around 20% of the subtitles but I still enjoy the movie very much. I like the plot and the script, especially the dialogue, every word made by everyone is meaningful and witty or funny. I think those who don't know Chinese custom may not be able to resonate well in a few scenes but they will not be lost. I find it more enjoyable than the Korean "Parasites" although technically this film is not as good. Personally, I don't feel much sadness throughout. A few scenes are really smart and funny but the last 10 to 15 minutes I felt very touched. I think Western audience will find it refreshing and more touching. The young actor is good. Some Bangkok and Thai life scenes are nice and smartly used. Everyone who watch it will benefit something from the film which they can't get elsewhere, regardless of whether one has a family or not.
