This is not a profound movie but it is fun- and it is in the same tone as the other fallen movies. The really negative reviews may reflect a political bias. If you love the Donald- probably should take a pass on this film, if not put on a megla don t shirt grab some pop corn and some beer or wine and chill-
Is it realistic? no but if you like the Die hard franchise, the Rambo franchise - you get the picture- mindless action with a bit of script to try and hold it more or less together....
If you measure this picture against the hundred all time best- no it's not but that's not what it was intended as. So Chill - it's mindless fun....

This is one of those movies that sucks you in. The direction, writing, acting, and elements like art direction are all over the place. My wife and I almost bailed about 20 minutes into the film.
The quirky characters, and basically a good story kept us in. At times a scene would work, and work well and then the next scene would be a disaster with over the top writing, a lack of direction and non-existent acting.
There are fact dumps, over the top PC moments, a very scary post plastic Tara Reid, a PC Dennis Haskins are some of the negatives, yet the chemistry with some of the children, and story line make parts of this movie work.
I've seen this reviewed as a romantic dramady which is about right.
If you like a character driven movie, with some interesting characters you might like this movie.

This is a movie that my wife and I watched based on the user reviews. I like user reviews because I can read between the lines and get a feel as to whether or not I'm going to like this film. It's not fool proof but better than professional reviews for me.
So this film has elements that could have made it a really good film and didn't wuite reach its potential.
First- the script was not quite there. Parts of it worked well other parts were in the WTF category. The premise that a women missing family could end up creating her own family was good. The execution went from this is really interesting to ok here's the stock Hollywood cliche...
The directing was excellent in some scenes to hey lets phone in our acting and directing.
The acting went from quite good to we're just saying our lines and the directors gone to craft service while the 3rd ad tries to get the scene. There is no chemistry between Reese Witherspoon and Pico Alexander... let alone her ex Micheal Sheen.I would have preferred Jon Rudnitsky as the romantic lead- there was at least some chemistry.
I was ready to walk out on this but my wife guilted me into watching it and I was glad I did. It's got some redeeming features- the opening credits promise a lot more than is delivered. There are moments in the film that the writing, directing and acting show what could have been. So it's worth a watch. Not as bad as some critics have claimed and not as good as others have claimed either. Hallie Meyers-Shyer shows promise- this needed more rewrites on the script, better casting, better acting and more consistent directing.
