  • Inauthentic, shallow, predictable, clicheed.

I am a huge Mads Mikkelson fan and I am also a fan of historical and period dramas, so when i saw this combination I was very excited. Unfortunately this movie suffers from a very bad script that contains some of the most wooden dialogue I have seen in a long time, as well as a predicable plot and cliched characters, particularly the absurd villain in De Schinkel. It is clear that the screenwriters have a very shallow knowledge of the period, with every facet of the world, whether it be the speech, the law, social mores, class interaction, agricultural practices, construction and day-to-day life are either utterly inauthentic, or barely scratch the surface. I found this film unimmersive. Despite this criticism, the cinematography was quite nice, albeit uninspired, and the production quality was decent.

  • A Bold Yet Humanising Portrayal of a Shocking Quadruple Murder

I was initially unsure about the narrative style in which the actors who portray the victims walk through and discuss the various theories themselves, however by the end I knew the directors had nailed it in a truly humanizing way.

This true crime docu-drama is unique not only in its narrative structure, but also in the quality of the production design, soundtrack, cinematography, use of colour, and tasteful, high quality reenactment scenes and dialogue.

The filmmakers clearly earned the trust of the various witnesses, police officers and family and friends of the victims as evidenced by the degree of openness and emotion demonstrated by them in the film.

By the end, I was in tears.

  • A Call of Duty Cutscene.

-CGI is bad and off-putting -Almost all characters are one dimensional. The only characters I remotely felt invested in were the navigator Crosby (because he had a vaguely discernable personality) and Barry Keoghans character (because he had a funny accent) -Austin Butler must have had something in his contract about protecting his hair and not changing his voice due to the Elvis shoot -The two leads look and act very unconvincing as Majors -Dialogue unconvincing for the era -Almost every non flying scene made my eyes glaze over. Character development and whatever crumbs of backstory feel so forced and on the nose.

-Just a massive over produced let down.
