A couple of days have passed and Megalopolis still lingers in my mind. This film was done a major disservice. How some folks classify this as the worst film ever made is insane.
The impeccable production and sound design should at least earn it some points even if you have problems with the plot.
I've not had this feeling after seeing a film before, cuz film reviewers which opinion i respect raged on how megalopolis is a trainwreck. This take is just utterly false. I guess that's the beauty of artistic interpretation, I just never thought I'll be one of the ones in the minority.
Megalopolis is a masterpiece. Francis Ford Coppola delivers one of the best film of the year, and one of my all-time favourites.

To the seemingly many that dislike this film, i can totally understand why that might be the case.
It's a tough ask to sit through 140 minutes of an anthology film that kinda seems to have a disjointed plot structure.
In my opinion, i think you'll be more forgiven of the films obvious shortcomings if you're a fan of Léa Seydoux. She's incredible. The film showcases her expert acting prowess, playing multiple characters stretched across different timelines. That alone had the film in my good graces.
Unfortunately an anthology plot comes with its drawbacks. Many films that have employed this medium, with few exceptions, often fail to make the different story blocks feel like a cohesive structure. Viewers, myself included will gravitate to a specific story in the anthology. In this case i much preferred the 'first act' of La bête.
If you're looking for a sci-fi film, this is not it. It's a drama-thriller love story that span different timelines.

Another year, another overhyped arthouse film..
Firstly, no matter if you loved this movie or not, you have to agree it had no business being 100+ mins long.. Another case of a short film masquerading as a feature.
To drag the runtime, director Jane Schoenbrun employs one of the most unnatural speech pattern for their characters. It almost drove me crazy. Everyone..... spoke...... in...... annoying...... long....... pauses.
The film somewhat picked up around the 60 minutes mark. The dialogue delivery improved. Both leads were finally given some material to work with.
While the underlying theme is fascinating, it was not executed well. The monologue in the '3rd act', (if you would call it that), better encapsulate Jane Schoenbrun vision and I wished the entire film stayed the course.
