This checked a few boxes. It kept me guessing, was scary, had suspense and had the effect of making time pass that bit more quickly! The film-makers when what they were doing when they tapped into that unconscious fear of a threat just outside. We all know that nasty people are there, somewhere. It is just a comfort factor to believe that the most evil are staying where they are. This film dispelled that myth and broke the comfort zone, It was not all tension and scare - some humour was there as well. I liked that as it helped to provide a balance with the more shocking parts. This is a scary film, it had me wondering which genre it fitted best - suspense thriller or horror. In the end I decided that it ticked both boxes but defining it to such a resolution was not important as the outcome of both was achieved as it helped me to suspend belief and 'enjoy' the story. An all round good effort with a fine result.
This was an emotional tale with highs and lows as it steered through a complex relationship matrix. It is a beautifully made films that deserves the festival success that it has enjoyed. The story emerged and the narrative followed through in an unpredictable but compelling way. The actual production quality was really high and I was impressed. I forgot that I was watching a film and got fully immersed into the story. To me this is a mark of a successful film. It's attraction went further than the story though. The characters were well developed and well acted with presence. I would rate this film high among the independents. In summary it was a sexy and smart production that deserves the well earned credit that it has achieved.
This provided an almost voyeuristic experience in horror as it seemed so realistic. The blend of a scientific examination of phenomenon with the horror of the unexplainable was a potent mix. This was the key in character building a compelling storyline that delivered in explosive style. If you like watching the reality TV stuff where ghost hunting goes on this will seem like a natural thing to watch and gets your guard down as it starts to lead into a territory that if far from familiar in such programmes. This was really a very good production and if it had not been it would have easily resulted in the screen horror being discounted as something one can distance from as light entertainment. This was instead a dose of heavy entertainment. I would recommend it, but suggest that you do not watch it alone.
