There's a lot to like about this show. The dialogue is realistic. I haven't had one "Who talks like that (IRL)?"moment. The stories are gripping. LA is beautiful and the cinematography is excellent. Characters from Bosch appear on the periphery as they would in real life based on the relationship between Ballard and Bosch at the end of the Bosch Legacy series. The fight scenes aren't perfect (see The Night Agent for more realistic-seeming male v female fight scenes) but they are much more believable than most nowadays.
My only criticism is the lighting on some interior scenes making the lead actress seem almost CGI generated. But there's not a lot of that and it gets better later in the series.
I hope we get several more seasons!

Funny. Well-written. Intriguing. Clever. Clever soundtrack, even. And, bonus points, no social messaging through storylines, character ethnicity, character orientation, or actor choices! At last, a return to entertainment!!
I did not expect to enjoy this anywhere near as much as I did. Too many modern shows are something to endure. Whether it's vile language, violence, unwanted and unnecessary sex scenes, most modern shows leave us feeling like we've lived through something. This show on the other hand left us feeling uplifted. It's well written and there is a complete absence of the sort of nastiness that seems to have taken over TV shows and movies. The characters are likable and funny. Ludwig is just plain fun and brilliant storytelling.
We can't wait for the next season.
