  • Outstanding film

This film reminds the viewer it is the little things in life that are the most important. A very well made film (nothing cheap about it) and the acting and direction are terrific. The bloke who plays Ramon is the perfect character for the role, as are all the other actors and actresses in the film. The film has many different angles to it - cruelty and kindness, wealth and poverty, but kindness certainly is the most powerful aspect of this film. I cannot believe there are so few reviews of this film, but I guess Americans don't think much of films unless they are talking American English (as shown when they dubbed the Aussie classic Max Mad in American accents). Forget English, "Buen Dia, Ramon" could not be made if were not in Spanish and German. The film is so good, after a while you forget you are reading subtitles. This is the best film I have seen all year and it is less than a month to Christmas. A must see for anyone who has a heart. The end will leave you with a warm feeling and maybe a few tears.

  • What an eye opener

This film was rather simplistic and not completely accurate with the real events that occurred. However, the film was in some aspects a masterpiece. There was a lot of symbolism in the movie. The film was low budget and I found a bad technical flaw (TV sets need an antenna for a clear picture!). However most of the acting was excellent and the story was without parallel.

There is a brilliant documentary which I would say is superior to this film called The Loving Story. It is highly recommended to watch before seeing this film so some facts can be established first.

What stood out in the film was that racism was systemic in the so-called United States, where the deep south governments in the 60's were clearly the enemy of liberty and freedom. The film should have made a special mention to the good old white boy state of Alabama which thumbed its nose at the Supreme Court by refusing to the miscegenation laws until as late as 2000, when the vote to allow interracial marriage was barely passed.

I recommend this film to anyone who believes in freedom, democracy and justice. This obviously excludes members of the KKK who would probably burn it.

  • I finally got it!

I watched this film three times as a teenager in 1973/1974, with my friend, then my friend and his aunt, and then when I had to go along with the school class. I then found the film boring because I never understood it and there was little action. I would have been 15 or 16 at the time. The language was too speak-easy for me and the plot too adult- like for an un-worldy teenager like myself.

But I never give up. Forty years later, I watched the film again and I understood it. I found it to be quite enjoyable and liked the twists.

The acting was very good, as was the plot. There were a few bugs in the film and with modern equipment, I could freeze frame a gunshot to the head and see there was no bullet hole. Still, it was quite entertaining.

The music of course is a classic... THE ENTERTAINER!
