I really enjoyed the film, I'm a genre fan, and it does some creative things. The issue I had with 40 Acres, is that there wasn't any real discussion about race, politics and exploitation. Essentially 40 Acres is a good post-apocalyptic film the only difference is the plot revolves around a black family which is rather unusual for this genre.
Overall, the film has great themes which I haven't seen in other post-apocalyptic movies, other than perhaps the No Blade of Grass (1970). But it has interesting family dynamics some discussion of the abuse of Native Americans, but really nothing about the false promise of "40 acres and a mule." I was a disappointed, I was expecting more from such an emotionally charged title.
Either way this flick is worth a look, but if you're not a genre fan you might not appreciate it as much if you already love films like the original Mad Max (1979).

I don't recommend watching this film while scrolling through your insta feed, or whatever feed on your phone. There is basically zero dialogue so the story is told through visuals only.
You really need to pay attention to this film because some of the explanations come via brief visual cues. So, if your eyes are averted to phone or laptop you will be very confused.
Only main problem with the exposition in this movie is that in the beginning we have no clue why the main characters are on the lamb. I only figured it out about a third of the way trough the film.
Put down your phone grab a light beer and enjoy!

The amount of scientific nonsense in this movie is just shocking! I get that the director and the writer, are not scientists, but they must have had access to Google, or a public library.
If you are scientifically illiterate this film is for you. It has a great hook, a twist in the end, and good acting...the lead is an absolute cutie. But if you have sense for logic and have read and or payed attention in science class, you will be annoyed and shocked but the shear lack of research and a complete disrespect for coherence for dramatic effect.
The creators of this movie literally, assumes that the audience is an idiot child. But don't let me discourage you from checking this movie out. Just skip ahead a bunch and enjoy the hook and the twist.
