I can't stop to wonder how this movie even came to be. The script is incredibly bad and the movie is way too long, by the second half I just wanted it to be over.
McGregor is kinda entertaining because he's just portraying his coked up self, but besides that there's no redeeming qualities to be found.
Even the fight scenes are bad. I mean how can you make a movie that is basically about fighting, get some seasoned MMA fighter to star in it and then end up with a movie that has terrible fighting scenes that for some reason even uses bad CGI effects for most of them.
A real big waste of money, and an absolute disgrace to the original.

First off, I'm quite a Gaspar Noé fan, and I have watched every movie since "I stand alone" - I liked every single one of them, and especially Climax really surprised me with how good it was.
This movie however leaves me with very mixed feelings. 90% of the movie consists dialog which is either meaningless or leaves alot of room for interpretation, but, in any case, wasn't very entertaining to watch. The other 10% make anyone familiar with Noé's work instantly recognize his trademark visuals. These 10% are really painful to watch, but not for the reasons you might expect from a "classic" Noé movie. In the end, the movie left me pretty unsatisfied. The visuals were pretty interesting at times, yes, and would have been perfect for a music video, but they don't save save the movie from feeling dull.
I would still recommend it for fans of this director, as it is definitely an unusual movie, just don't expect anything mindblowing or truly disturbing!

As a big H.P. Lovecraft fan, I'm always delighted to discover new movies that are based on his stories, especially when it comes to the Cthulhu Mythos.
And because I'm such a fan, I'm willing to accept alot of shortcomings, but I'm afraid this film just doesn't offer anything worthwhile.
The acting is mostly bad, only Robert Miano stands out with a solid performance. A big problem is the main cast, which is just not good and not very likeable. I had a hard time sitting through the whole movie, waiting for some Lovecraftian Horror, that just never came. And just flailing tentacles around doesn't do the trick.
And if you're into blood and gore - too bad, because there's barely anything of it.
The production value itself was okay, the film didn't look like a low budget flick most of the time, even though some practical effects and masks looked rather cheap.
Long story short - I wouldn't recommend this movie, not even for Lovecraft and Cthulhu fans. Just go and watch "Dagon" instead!
