American hustle is the dramatized true story of ABSCAM, which was an FBI sting operation to root out corruption in politics. Bradley Cooper is pretty good and slightly comical as the FBI agent. The redhead (Amy Adams) is ok but she gets a little cringe when she starts imitating a British accent. It's always cringe when a female does that in the movies to sound sophisticated. Jeremy Renner's acting is good but unfortunately his character is portrayed in a manner inconsistent with the real life person's. Renner is portrayed as an honest pure hearted politician. Need I say more? (There is no such thing) His gullibility in the film is ridiculous as he is totally blindsided by the corruption around him. Of course the real life politician was a Democrat so of course they try to white wash his own corruption. Jennifer Lawrence is just a bad overrated actress but fun to look at. Christian Bale's portrayal of the felon/snitch is good which is unsurprising. Overall the movie should have been better for such an interesting true story from a great era.
I went into this movie not knowing exactly what genre or style it was, but it seemed like a dark comedy/parody. During the first 30 minutes, I laughed at the bad acting and pathetic dialogue. The dialogue is so bad that at times, it comes off as a bit comical. The plot does carry suspense but this turns out to be a bad thing because it prevents you from saving the other hour and half of your life, that you will soon lose and never get back again. I'm being serious here, you WILL regret wasting your time on this nonsense. The only interesting thing about this "movie" is the fact that Kevin Spacey did it.
