I had the intention to watch it for a long time and happened to watch it exactly at the right time for me to understand the various characters. I am now 36 and as Cécile says in the movie, I am an old man. Great characters study, with the good mix of perversity, humour and, also, love. John Malkovitch and Glen Close are fabulous in their roles, no wonder they are so famous for it. Great score and costumes, on point. I just have to say that as a French person, it's weird to hear it on English, but after 5 minutes I was able not to pay attention to it anymore. A last note obviously: not to be watched by innocent eyes...
I did not know this movie won the 2015 oscar for best foreign movie when I watched it (in 2022), but I am glad it did. It is surprising though, when you think of the hero of the movie being a future nun. Sometimes the movie takes a guilty pleasure to try and pervert the nun, but it is not going too far in this direction, for the good of the movie. Loved the way it was written and filmed in black and white. Quite slow though, but short.
