  • Great Beethoven Drama

I personally was very moved by these Beethoven series and would love to get it on DVD with Dutch subtitles so that my parents and grandparents can watch it.

I saw the first two parts on television and missed the final 3rd part, which really bothered me. I'm glad I finally did find a way to see it, but would love to purchase it. I find it really amazing that such a good documentary with such good actors is not released on DVD while a lot of much lesser series and movies ARE released on DVD. If it ever does gets to be released, somebody please send me an email! Yes it's a very dramatic documentary indeed. But is this really surprising when you listen to Beethoven's work? I really think the makers and the actors did a wonderful job. Of course I don't know if Beethoven really was behaving like he does in the series, but I can very well imagine that he did behave like that when listening to his music and imagine what it must be like to go deaf being a musician. I think the emphasis on his frustrations in the series were totally justified in order to understand Beethoven as a person. When you understand him as a person, you might also understand his music better and why he composed the way he did. All these things are explained by Charles Hazelwood, so frankly, I don't understand how anybody could be disappointed by a great inside look into the live of the great Beethoven.

  • He was no fool to me: he actually demonstrated how to live in peace with those animals

I've seen this movie twice by now and think that people misunderstood the Timothy Treadwell situation. This includes fellow reviewers and also some of the people who gave their opinion in the movie itself.

Basically, some people think that Timothy Treadwell got what he deserved; that it was just a matter of time before he'd be killed.

It's not that simple to me, because he was actually living in peace with those animals and would get out of there when summer season was over, because of the lack of food for the bears. When Grizzly bears don't have enough food, they even eat their own. Timothy Treadwell knew this, and would leave when summer season was over. In fact, he already left the bear maze (the territory/bear area). The reason why he returned, was a problem with his travel documents and thus he decided to stick around a little longer, which was a risk that he would normally never take. To me, THAT is why he and his girlfriend died. I believe that if this would not have been the case, if he would just have returned the next summer season, he would probably still be alive because he really understood how to live in peace with the bears. He had done so for a long time already and captivated the proof of that on film.

His relationship with foxes was also VERY impressive. Especially when you realize that these animals will never come close to anybody. But they sensed that Timothy Treadwell was different and the foxes trusted him. This guy was probably in harmony with any animal.

Can't we learn a lesson from this instead of killing every being that looks dangerous when running into them?

Of course I am not saying that it is recommended for people to massively go out camping in those area's and invade the bear's territory. I am saying that Timothy proved that you actually CAN deal with those animals in a peaceful way instead of killing them when you run into them. Some other wildlife pioneers did the same thing with white sharks and I've also seen a man doing something similar with a lion. This is important research and when those people do die at some point, I think they earn a little more respect than to be called 'idiots'.

I am very disappointed that lot's of people didn't even understood this very important message while it's so clearly demonstrated in the movie. Instead of understanding this, they focus on details that are not important. Who cares about the face of his girlfriend or why Timothy did this or that. Just make sure you get the true message of the movie.

I'm scoring it a 8 instead of higher, because of the length of the movie; some parts where too long in my opinion.
