I’ve loved film since I was eight years old, but only in my late twenties did I start to truly grow a real appreciation for the world of film. Since 2020 I’ve been rating and writing reviews on the films I watch. While the reviews are nowhere near perfect. I find great joy in writing them.

  • A heartfelt, family movie....

Portrayal of three foundational themes: faith in one's aspirations, the enduring legacy of family traditions, and the steadfast nature of genuine friendship. It serves as a poignant reminder of the emotional strength found within personal relationships and the courage it takes to pursue meaningful dreams.

The ensemble cast delivers solid, emotionally nuanced performances, offering authenticity rather than extravagance. From its opening moments, the film elicits a strong emotional response-particularly for those who hold familial bonds dear. The depiction of Italian family dynamics lends the narrative cultural richness and heartfelt sincerity.

Pacing is efficient and balanced, with a concise runtime under two hours. Each scene contributes purposefully to the broader narrative, and the casting choices feel deliberate and well-aligned with the story's emotional tone. There are no extraneous elements; the film maintains narrative clarity and momentum throughout.

Overall, this production stands out as an inspiring family-centered drama. Its thematic depth and emotional resonance make it a worthy recommendation for audiences seeking heartfelt storytelling grounded in real-life events. While the film may evoke a craving for home-cooked meals, it most importantly stirs a longing for connection, heritage, and personal fulfillment. A thoughtfully cast and skillfully rendered film, it exemplifies the power of storytelling to illuminate life's intimate struggles and triumphs. It affirms that with sincerity and heart, the pursuit of dreams can yield profound and lasting rewards.

That's it for now. Thanks for taking time to read my review. Happy watching and enjoy the show!

  • If you're not a fan yet, you may soon be....

    7.4/10 (Definitely Recommend)

To be the best of the best in Formula One, you're not just racing against other drivers. You're racing the machine itself. Victory demands unmatched speed, strength, and strategy. Does this film capture that reality? It absolutely does, as it offers but a glimpse into the thrilling intensity of the real sport.

What makes this film particularly compelling is its immersive execution. It places the viewer right in the driver's seat, delivering a visceral sense of the tension and exhilaration that define each race. The cinematography is outstanding, masterfully shifting between cockpit views and dynamic race footage to create a strikingly authentic atmosphere. The sound design further enhances the experience, using realistic audio and racing jargon to make you feel like a true member of the pit crew.

While the storyline follows a familiar arc, a fiery rookie and a renegade old-timer, the performances from Damson Idris and Brad Pitt bring undeniable charisma and chemistry. Their emotional interplay adds depth to the narrative and keeps the audience engaged, even as the plot treads well-worn paths. The emotional highs and lows of competition are palpable, and the audience's reactions, including audible gasps, speak to the film's dramatic impact.

In the end, this is a film for those who crave the thrill. Its standout cinematography and sound design offer a gripping portrayal of the racing world. While it may not convert everyone into lifelong F1 fans, it will undoubtedly spark some curiosity about the sport. And if you have the chance to see it on an IMAX screen - take it. As I would have no doubt it would be amazing. The larger the format, the more electrifying the experience.

That's it for now. Thanks for taking time to read my review. Happy watching and enjoy the show!

  • Heartwarming, but ultimately lacks character....

    6.4/10 (Would Recommend)

I decided to watch this film on impulse after hearing it was being under-marketed, and, to a lesser extent, because the premise intrigued me. It has that tone and presentation of a classic Pixar and/or Disney film.

Premise: The story centers on Elio, a boy who feels unwanted on Earth and dreams of being taken away by aliens. When his wish comes true, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery and learns what it means to feel accepted.

While the concept had potential, several aspects of the film didn't quite resonate with me. I found the pacing uneven, the emotional tone was slightly underdeveloped, and the first hour lacked the momentum I was hoping for. Despite my interest in space, it wasn't enough to keep me fully engaged through the majority of the movie.

That said, the film excelled visually. The animation was beautifully executed, with vibrant, immersive scenes that felt lifelike. The audio quality was crisp and clear, with a standout orchestral score that elevated the experience. The final 30 minutes is where it really shined for me. Elio's journey reaches a meaningful resolution that adds emotional weight to the narrative. It made me choke up a bit.

While the film didn't quite deliver on its potential, it's still an enjoyable option for families. Being the sole viewer in the theatre, I'd say it's maybe best suited for children aged 6 to 12, though those young at heart may find delight in it as well.

Overall, it's a decent theatrical release, though I'd recommend watching it on a discounted night. In my opinion, it honestly doesn't merit paying the full ticket price, and seeing it in 3D is likely unnecessary; the standard version offered a perfectly enjoyable experience.

That's it for now. Thanks for taking time to read my review. Happy watching and enjoy the show!
