  • Nice, but slow and long, so bring some coffee with you.

What I really liked about the movie was the psychological tension building up during the film. You keep wondering what happened and are just left with a few clues which could be interpretated in several ways. The film brings some suspense which reminded me of some Hitchcock movies from the past. There was also a big difference with Hitchcock though: whereas Hitchcock uses strong acting, imagery and sound to build up the tension, in Burning there are not much scenes which please the eye, it's just all so... normal as is the acting. Furthermore, the script is slow... with several scenes which leave you wondering why you had to witness this information at all. This resulted in several people snoring in the Cinema I saw this screening. In all honesty, the film breathes an atmosphere simalar to the books of Murakami, which in my opinion also tend to be more poetic and slow - certainly no page turners and neither is Burning. So if you really like the books of Murakami, this is the film for you I suppose. Overall experience: bit boring, intriguing, weird, not much to please the eye or ear, interesting storyling. Worth to see it? YES, but prepare for a long sit and bring some coffee to keep awake.

  • 3D version not very exiting

I've watched the movie in a 3D version. During the movie I noticed that quite often you see a sort of Schiller like theater setting in layers appearing on the screen. First layer is sharp, other layers are often not sharp. In photography terms we call this the depth of field. I actually haven't given 3D a lot of thought since it came available, but seeing The Deathly Hallows I realized that when you watch a 3d movie, you want a high level of dept of field. In that case most layers will be sharp giving you a good 3D experience of the movie like looking through a window. Lot's of detail become visible. As the Deathly Hallows don't often use a high DOF, I can't recommend the 3D version as an extra feature to the movie experience, often it's rather annoying to watch this version compared to the 2D movie.

  • Excellent movie

After the negative advice of my Video rental shop owner, I still got the nerve to watch the movie and... I was actually quite entertained. Beautiful graphics, nice dark atmosphere and more than enough action throughout the movie. Nice humor and quotes. It really stands above a lot of other movies I've seen and you can be sure of an evening of entertainment when you decide to watch it. The movie's atmosphere lies somewhere between Dune, Mad Max, the Batman movies and Alien III. Characters are well played and not always the regular types you see. The Necromonger characters and the Elemental played by Judy Dench are well worked out and original. Praise for David Twohy to keep the story in tune with the essential dark atmosphere of the movie. I didn't experience the storyline itself as very new, which for instance for me was the case with the first Matrix movie, but that's also because the theme covers several movies. But nevertheless, the storyline is well executed so I didn't care! At some point I got a flashback from Shakespeare's Macbeth. So, if I wrap this comment up in a short feedback: 'Go see this movie and be sure of a very enjoyable evening'.
