  • This Show Needs Writers

I wanted to like this show. Too bad I can't. Four episodes in and I'm calling it. I thought about rating it a five, but that would mean it was worth a chance. I won't watch it again. The writing was the worst part. It was lame, full of tired old jokes and no zip at all. The performances seemed to phoned in, but I think this was partly the poor material they had to work with. The characters were annoying. With good writing and performances, annoying characters can become incredibly entertaining. Not here. I splurged with four stars only because I think there could be some potential. I'd really rather give it a three.

  • These People Should NOT Have Driver's Licences

I have not kept track, but it seems there is at least one car accident per episode, sometimes two or three. Why are these people still driving. How are the cars still drivable? I have eclectic tastes and this fits right in there. Definitely not a sitcom drivel. I was going to check the box for spoilers, but this is so minor I'm not going to bother. The first season ends just after Emma (the daughter) finds out Mary is a werewolf. Everybody looked traumatized on the drive home, but then a hint o a smile appears on Emma's face. You can just see her thinking, "My stepmother is a werewolf. So cool!"

  • Much Better Than I Expected. I Loved It.

I can't remember what brought me to this title. Probably, the "More like I'm addicted to them. I've found so many great movies (and duds as well) that way. Anyway, like other reviewers, I expected a 'Lifetime' style formula movie, but even from the description, I felt there might be something different. I'm so glad I watched it. Right from the beginning, it felt 'off' for the genre. I'm a fan of foreign and indie films that eschew the Hollywood formula and this fits right in there.

SPOILER: Just my imagination working overtime here, probably because I didn't like the ending. I imagine the grandparents and kidnapper/Dad/John end up with a shared custody situation and he is given full custody as the grandparents age and health deteriorates.

  • Hated Estella

I saw this years ago and from what I can remember it was a decent production. I just started watching again but I can't finish it. The greatest fault was Estella, both young and older versions. It's been even longer since I read the book, but I recall that Estella was enchanting, enticing, a dream vision, every man's desire. She was raised to break men's hearts and leave them a broken shell. As soon as she was introduced, I skipped ahead to make sure this was the version that most disappointed me. Nobody would desire this Estella. They represented her as a stern Victorian woman, as ugly on the outside as she is inside.

  • A Favourite Choped to Pieces

Miracle on 34th Street is one of my favourite stories. I found this in a DVD collection of Christmas movies. I was hoping it would be a redeeming factor to the uninspiring collection. I'm sad to say it wasn't. There is very little new or original here, though with its short run-time, there is lots missing. Do yourself a favour and skip this version and watch the original, its basically the same movie. Or else try one of the other available versions. This one was a waste of time.

It's even sadder that I have to write ten lines of dreck to fill up the minimum length requirement. There's not much to say. Half the movie is missing. I wouldn't have minded that so much if they tried to do it in an original way, but instead, they just chopped out half the movie.

  • Not Great But Better Than A 4.3

Different people watching this film see different movies. T and A people see naked and think great. The rest see this as crap. Except for Carl Hiaasen fans. I'm one of the latter and since I've read the book I can't help but see this as an attack on political corruption and environmental folly.

After losing her job as an office clerk for the FBI due to her ex-husbands recent criminal proclivities, Erin Grant (Demi Moore) resorts to stripping to support herself and her daughter as well as the high legal fees of a custody battle with said ex. When a corrupt congressman takes a lewd interest in Erin, she is drawn into a profitable but dangerous situation involving Florida sugar growers.

Become a Carl Hiaasen fan and see this movie for what it really is and delegate the stripper bar to just the setting, much as a spaceship is in a sci-fi movie. It's not a great movie, but when can see the content rather than the package, it is worth far more than a 4.3. Burt Reynolds character is worth much more than that. It deserves a 5 or so. I give it a 6 just for Hiaasen.
