  • Nice to see unbiased ratings of adverts disguised as a tv show

I was quite disappointed in this - having only watched the gin episode, I won't be delving into any other "epic adventures" and I don't feel like I watched an epic adventure either. It just felt like a bit of a pretentious advert rather than an interesting tv show. And that's a shame really because it could have been more...

  • That was fun

I rarely review but it's so nice to be able to come away positively surprised by a film.

Wasn't sure at first but it developed really nicely and earlier parts of the film did build the character backgrounds nicely.

And what a great trio - worked so well together on many levels.

I was not expecting to find it so funny. There were some suitably silly bits too - but all to be expected and as the credits rolled, I had a smile on my face - can't ask for more than that.

  • Comedy, in a very special way

    I love this show.

I finished watching it years ago but just stumbled upon this page and had to write a review.

It's comedy in a touching, amusing way. It's sad, it's real, it's slow.

Don't watch this if you're expecting classic quick one-liners and belly laughs every 2nd minute.

Just sit down and watch it in a relaxed mood, take your time, It's comedy like only the British could do and make it great and a success. The characters are well written and the actors fit perfectly.

These could be people you and I know.

I used to have the exact yellow Triumph TR7 like in the show, so that was a nice touch for me.

But to be clear, I don't own a metal detector...

  • What a sad embarrassing film to end on

I don't often write reviews but really had to say something here.

Was this story thrown together in a few days?

Was it, as someone else has suggested, an AI attempt?

The acting really was awful for this level of film - it really reminded me of the Friends "Joey smells a fart in an elevator" lesson!

And why so long? All the flashbacks are probably to blame but even then, it's drawn out all the same.

I know it's not meant to be realistic, it is a fantasy film with dumb baddies that could never predict what you're going to do.

I just feel it's sad if this is the last in the film series... should've stopped one film earlier!

  • What an overrated pile of pretentious mess

I have never seen this show but have heard it referenced over and over and always with high praise. It made me curious a number of times and with recent events I decided to seek it out and finally enjoy the pleasure and beauty of this apparent masterpiece.

Never have I been so hugely disappointed and confused about a new show. What the hell is that? Was it possibly better 35 years ago? Ok acting was different back then but this was painful and impossible to watch even allowing for some attempt to be in a quirky style. Totally unwatchable and left me wondering what the heck all the fuss is about?

Didn't make it to the end of episode 1... life is too short!

  • It was funny, for about 10 minutes

I'll start by saying that it is my style of humour but blow after blow leaves you limp and no longer interested.

It could have been a funny half hour show - that would be enough.

I enjoyed it at first, seemed witty and cheeky and funny but then it just starts to repeat and it's just painful.

This is my first Cunk to be fair so I didn't know what I was getting into.

I suspect that a lot of the 9-10 star reviews are by mega fans or maybe some involved in the production. But I get why some people would love it.

Like I said I did, it's funny, until it isn't Like Dad jokes, funny, 2nd one funny... but then pleases stop.

  • What a waste of my time

I didn't connect with the characters and without giving anything away I was not surprised neither was I impressed with the storyline and ending. It was lacking in interest and good writing. It was a good thing to watch if I didn't want to concentrate on the show or particularly pay attention. It felt a bit lazy and kitch to me, not sure who the writers were targeting here. The actors were not unknowns so I expected a bit more than this lacklustre storyline which didn't really seem to go anywhere. I'm not sure how much more negative I can feel, except that I need to keep writing to fill the required number of characters to meet the minimum for the review.

  • What a waste of time

The spiel says "The ultimate nostalgia trip through everything edible in 1960s Britain." and that's what it is at best - with badly told and acted storyline.

I did not feel any love or attachment to the characters or feel that any great story was being told here.

The very obviously placed edibles from UK 60's were the only point of interest for me and even that was not so much of interest.

I did not feel any flow in the story as it jumped from one thing to another. I don't know the original story or the main character in real life, maybe that would have helped me feel some attachment. Still a big disappointment.

  • I cannot recommend this film, but I couldn't stop watching it

I don't know, I don't know why I stuck it out, I don't know how I made it through 3 hours of really not much happening at all.

I would find it hard to recommend this film to friends because you basically sit in the backseat of multiple car rides for 95% of the film. I can't possibly suggest that it would be interesting. But then again I kept watching and didn't walk out on it.

I felt it was quite brave for someone to release a film like this and that deserves merit.

It was real, but it wasn't real exciting - it almost felt unscripted, partially at least, maybe that's just a credit to the few actors involved.

Go into this understanding what it is and what it is not...

  • What did you expect?

I'm not sure how I can find 600 characters to write this review but here goes.

It wasn't great at all, but it wasn't the worst thing ever either.

I didn't see the original, I'm not American so I didn't recognise anyone except the brief Snoop appearance/ Oh the koala is cute of course, not that I'm biased. And I can't say I knew anything about the dude celeb whose house it is - I figured he was in sport with balls of some sort, though it might have been baseball though I'm sure that if you're American and/or a sports fan then you'll get more out of it than me, but again, it's not the worst thing I've seen.

  • Meh...

Blah blah blah, light cabers, blah blah blah stormtroopers can't fight, blah blah blah.

And that kid chase scene was embarrassingly awful to watch - I really hope that it was meant to be tongue in cheek and deliberately bad, but even then, it wasn't even funny.

  • Best film I've seen this year

Ok, maybe not a great year for comparisons, what with limited production possibilities. However, It made me smile and it made me laugh. It was silly in the right dose. It was funny in the right dose. It was "hmmmm, this could really happen" in the right dose too. I enjoyed it and don't hesitate in recommending it. But don't try to be the first out of the cinema, stay in your seat...

  • I wanted to like it, but I fell asleep

I was really looking forward to seeing this, was I expecting too much? I just felt that it could have and should have been so much better.

I really wanted to like it, so I forgave the jumpy bits at first.

I fell asleep, or at least I think I did, I didn't follow everything - so was that me or the film.

Really touching to see Gandolfini playing Tony, that must have been very special for him and it added a lot to the film (probably my 2 stars!).

  • This isn't dry humour

It's not dry humour, it's just not humour. Ok maybe some people like it and that's great, good for you, that's what makes life interesting and if we all had the same opinions then it would be boring. The show isn't boring, it just isn't funny, in my opinion. And I did have high hopes for it. And I do get and love shows with dry humour.

  • My fault, I was expecting something hilarious

I admit it, it is my fault - I saw the show name, and Steve Carell and expected something much better. After all it is rated as a comedy.

I've watched two episodes and I will try a few more but my expectations have lowered considerably now. Maybe that means I will enjoy it more now.

I personally disagree with a lot of review on here - it is not Amazing, it is not Excellent and equally it is not Awful either. It's just a bit better than meh. It raised a smile or two but not much more just yet.

  • Season 1 was so good, and then...

Season 1 was great, the concept, so cool - great acting, scenery, etc. Season 2 was very "huh!!?" but I didn't give up. Season 3 was different and there was a glimmer of hope... but then it lost it again, in my opinion of course

  • Too many 10 reviews here, the show is ok but lets calm down

I've never seen so many 10/10 reviews - either people are on lockdown and have nothing better to do or there are a certain number of fakes here. The show is ok, it's not great, it's ok. It got a bit weird half way thru and the story seemed to jump without reason. It's violent but it's not the most violent thing ever seen on tv by any means. It was an ok watch but I was expecting more.

  • Music maketh not a film...

Ok the music is undeniably fabulous, classics until the end of time for sure. I thoroughly enjoy the group and their music. But I can get that from a cd. If I wasn't watching the film at a friend's place then I would not have watched it to the end. I found it incoherent and jumping around not explaining things along the way that could have been interesting - or maybe I fell asleep. Remember, the ratings here are meant to be for the film, not the group, not the music - 10 out of 10 for group and music. Film and acting... not

  • I Enjoyed It

I had no expectations going into this. I can't say that I'm an AC or HP fan at all and certainly haven't read any of the books. But I gave it a go and thoroughly enjoyed it. The negative reviews here seem to be hung up on comparing to what they expected because of their experience and expectations with AC/HP.. Mine is simply as a story and the acting - which at the end of the day is what counts for me. And as for John Malkovich and his accent, seemed totally fine to me (and this I do have great experience with).

I only kept watching it for so long because I was waiting for a good bit. Maybe it's just not my style, ok, maybe some people really like it (honestly, I find the 10's hard to understand!). But I am entitled to my opinion, that's why the reviews are here. It just rambled on and on and... well I gave it a 1 because 0 isn't possible - there was nothing here

  • It is NOT Breaking Bad (maybe just bad!)

I don't often get inspired to write reviews but I've stopped watching this show as it's just not for me. So I wanted to give it a rating based on my opinion. And then I noticed the reviews here... never have I seen on IMDb so many fake looking reviews! I don't know how it could possibly be further from Breaking Bad and I seriously don't understand how so many reviewers gave it a 9 or 10 out of 10. The show is quite polished and good scenery but I didn't find any heart or atmosphere (or good acting imho). It's not awful, watch an episode and make your own opinion - it's worth that at least. But don't be surprised if you find yourself surprised by the overinflated ratings and reviews already present here.

  • Could not stop watching...

First review, but just finished watching Season 2.

Season 1 had me rating this as a 9 out of 10, but Season 2 leaves me no choice but to bump that up to a 10 out of 10.

I couldn't stop watching, episode after episode, in two sittings. 8 hours of suspense, intrigue, great acting, and a well chosen mix of languages and actors from different countries.

It felt authentic and real, sadly too believable. No spoilers here, I would hate that anyone spoiled it for me. But it didn't fail to keep me glued to my TV screen.

The locations were well chosen and beautifully filmed.

There were some tuff moments, and I can't deny the fact that I shed a tear or two.

A subject well treated and not Hollywood glam'd up.
