  • I Am Hooked!!!!

I just bought the season one DVD and watched the first two episodes. I am now officially hooked. I particularly like Kevin McKidd and James Purefoy as Vorenus and Marc Antony, respectively. This series is so rich in detail, it's as if you're watching a movie. The acting is superb and I really appreciate the "in your face" depiction of battles and bedroom scenes. "Rome" depicts the ancient city in all of its glory, debauchery, and intrigue. Those Romans sure knew how to connive to get ahead!!! The costumes and sets appear to be very realistic. Rome is not shown just as a beautiful city of marble and stone. The show also takes you into the back streets and alleys where many of the common people lived. All of the characters have their flaws, which again is true to life. I know they are currently filming season two and I can only hope for a season three. Kudos to HBO for this fine drama.

  • Loved It!

I really, really loved this movie. All of the major actors were excellent, but most especially so were Duvall and Thomas Haden Church. In fact, Church's performance stood out the most for me - just the right amount of understatement to make his character very believable. Of course, Duvall is excellent in whatever he does, but he is at his best in westerns, I think.

The cinematography was truly magnificent. Would have played very well on the big screen too.

If you missed this the first time around, be sure to catch it if AMC shows it again. You won't be disappointed, particularly if you are a fan of westerns.

I only wish Hollywood would film more westerns of such quality for us to enjoy.

Kudos to all involved in this wonderful film!!!

  • One of My Favorite Shows

This was one of my favorite shows of the 60's. I especially liked James Stacy's portrayal of Johnny Lancer. He was a very fine actor. The show was much more realistic than some of the TV westerns such as Bonanza. Had a good cast and the location shots were great. Would love to see it back on reruns. Many of the story lines focused on the conflict between the father, Murdoch Lancer, and his sons, Scott and Johnny. But the best shows featured the character of Johnny, as portrayed by James Stacy. Unlike some other TV westerns which also took place on ranches, this show actually was a realistic portrayal of everyday life on a ranch. You actually saw cattle, which I don't recall ever seeing on Bonanza. If you get a chance to see this show on cable, don't miss it.
