Like many I LOVE Alien. Outside of the film's I read the books, comics and immersed myself in Alien lore. And like others have said, it's a greatest hits kinda movie.
It's better than 3, Resurrection, and most certainly Covenant! I like liked Promethius, and feel this is on parr, but way more of an actual Alien film with far better characters overall. Let's not even bother with a certain 2 other films (AVP).
It has it all, and the first 2 acts were great, good suspense and set pieces. Some very good gore and practical effects. The sets, design, everything felt true to the lore and universe. There is a 'cameo' which I personally hated, but no spoilers. And the use of gravity in space was really well done, not seen before in Alien like this I feel (more like Dead Space!). I really enjoyed it.
So what about act 3. It didn't ruin the film really, it just didn't need to exist. Whether it was a writer/director choice, it seemed more studio mandated in my opinion. I hate quibbling about plot holes and tie ins, but some of the biological lore of the xenomorph was played fast and loose. Which nighled me, and I imagine would annoy purists.
Would I see it again, hell yes. The fist 2 thirds really delivered. No idea where they could go from here though, because so much ground is trodden over from the previous films. However after the sour taste of Covenant (the worst in my opinion, excluding you know who!), this was a welcome end. Just not sure what anyone could do from here? Unless you went full Earth War like in the books/comics of the 90s. And then, is it even Alien anymore?

I had a blast. Ryan Gosling in just so much fun, I adore Emily Blunt... and personally I feel the 2 work so well off one another. I also loved Aaron TJ, he was great in his role. And the perfect mirror to Gosling (his infilm stunt double).
For me The film reminds me of Romance in the Stone and Jewel of the Nile. Action, comedy and romance spliced together. The stunt work is soooooo good, but unlike say John Wick for example, it's larely just fun and silly exhilarating.
A great popcorn flick, one you can just kick back and enjoy. People say the plot is dumb... I kinda feel its supposed to be. And no point was I taking any of it seriously (apart from the message about the importance of good stunt work), instead I was going with it all and having fun.

Mad Max 2 was one of the first 18 certificate movies I remember my parents allowing me to watch... as I was into dystopia, post-apoc table top gaming. At 42 the franchise has been at the forefront of my favourite movies for most of my life.
When Fury Road was released i was apprehensive, but proved wrong as I loved it every bit as the originals. Then I hear a Furiosa prequel is being done, and I'm well on board. Then the first trailer dropped and I just wasn't sold. However, I like Chris Hemsworth and Anna TJ. It's still directed by Miller so I'm still game.
Glad to say it was outstanding! Now in my opinion, I prefer Fury Road, and MM 1+2 clearly. (Thunderdrome is fine). However this is still great, and in many ways more akin to the first Mad Maxs than Fury Road was. More revenge, more development. Fury Road was a nonstop chase movie, with little breathing space... and that was its beauty. This is more 'act' based, characters go through 'stuff', there are moments of action built around a more structured narrative. Rather than, hit the gas... chase... GO!!!
All actors are superb. The cinematography is awesome, my initial of too much CGI was unfair. Most of it works great, and enhances the practical effects and outstanding stuntwork. Again I was worried about romance plots... but it was done beautifully.
All in all a great film. Miller clearly cares about his franchise. This is no Terminator, Die Hard etc, which years on from the gorgeous originals have lost their way and completely disregard good story telling or what made them work in the first place. Please Miller give me more.
