There's self-confident, and there's arrogant. Josh Holloway always seems so in love with himself, so "oh yeah, I'm devastatingly handsome and all", and with so little acting range, it's painful to watch.
Always with that smirk like he's the smartest handsomest guy in the room.
And to make matters worse, in this show, he's made up like an old hag, and hamming it up like you rarely see a professional actor do.

Laura Linney is a powerhouse, so energetic and charming.
On the other hand, Oliver Platt is a total mismatch.
There's no way IRL that a self-conscious woman like Linney would marry such an ugly loser, with quite literally nothing going on for him. I know looks don't paint the whole story, but still.
Sorry for being blunt, but who would want to wake up to Oliver Platt's face every morning if they have any other option, which Linney's character clearly had when she met him?
I just don't buy their couple, and Platt's uninspired acting doesn't help.
As for the show itself, it has its moments and some very good lines, in the midst of far less interesting episodes. You got it, Platt kind of ruined the show for me and made my suspension of disbelief far more difficult than it should have been.
John Hickey is a great addition to the cast, as are some guests (Susan Sarandon, Alan Alda, Hugh Dancy and a surprisingly funny Victor Garber in a truly off-color role).
Gabourey Sidibe, Gabriel Basso, they're like ok-ish, nothing especially groundbreaking there.
In a nutshell, Linney reminds me of Jean Smart in Hacks, as she single-handedly carries the show while her sidekick is bland, forgettable and 100% replaceable.

I found this one incredibly dull... I definitely don't connect with Del Toro's universe.
I was bored to tears watching The Shape of Water and his "Cabinet of Curiosities" on Netflix.
Okay, Frankenstein is visually appealing (except for the very obvious CGI), but the story is so conventional and predictable...
For me, this director is one of the most overrated in recent years. He tells stories that are worn out to the core, packaged in an arty and very flashy way, nothing more.
The old blind man who alone sees the beauty of the beast, the young idealist who falls in love with his pure and immaculate nature, the austere and cruel father... Seriously, haven't you seen this a thousand times before?
It's pretentious and long, long, long...
In fact, when you think about it, GDT makes the same movie over and over again, namely a version of Beauty and the Beast , changing merely a few details. And everyone goes, "Wow, how creative!"
