  • Agree...excellent series

I agree, it was an excellent series, and was one of the first joint projects I am aware of that the Australian Broadcasting Commission (now Corporation) with a German film company. I was fortunate enough to do a similar type of journey with my grandfather in the late 80's, and take him on a return journey to Darwin, where he served during WWII. I then returned to the outback to continue that dream. The Outsiders was an example of fine Australian drama produced by the ABC at the time, and stood out for its contemporary look at the outback when others were continuing to concentrate on period drama. I suppose that sums up much of the Australian psyche really, those in the cities dream of being the old time drover...and still think that many of us in the outback are like that...eh.

  • My kids thought it wonderful

Apart from Mike Myers silly laugh, which became a bit irritating, my family absolutely loved it. We all grew up on Dr Seuss, and I always wanted to see more of the illustrations. The CGI in the movie really allowed me to imagine further. The film kept my small children captivated all the way through, and that in itself is remarkable. Personally, I loved it. It had jokes (visual for the little ones and verbal for the big ones) which made the film watchable on all levels. A truly family film which can be watched by everyone and everyone gets something out of it. I thought that the casting was ideal, and the characterization of Things 1 and 2 wonderful.

  • Best viewed Christmas afternoon

This film is best viewed of a Christmas afternoon, with a heap of drunken friends...SBS TV in Australia featured it a few times as part of their regular 'Cult Classics' which included all those old movies which did not fit mainstream, but which you wanted to see for nostalgia's sake. Pia Zadora starred as a Martian child. A few years later, whilst playing the part of Anne Frank on stage, she was so bad, that when the German troopers arrived, the audience shouted '...she's in the attic...' This film does not, however, rank up there with the 60's Godzilla and Gamera movies, which really had a style of their own. The film would have been better if Martin the (Looney Tunes) Martian were cast. At least then we would have had a better array of effects and a more realistic storyline.
