  • Good classic boxing film

This film is about a boxer whose boxing career comes to an abrupt half after a doctor deems him unfit to continue boxing. Mountain Riviera has mellowed out, and lost hope after the doctor reiterates to him that he is unfit to resume his boxing career, let alone another fight. He becomes angry and anxiety-ridden about the prospects of not being employed. Mountain Riviera has been coached for 17 years by his coach played by Jackie Gleason, and he feels Gleason has abandoned him by not looking after him, following the end of his boxing career. The central theme of the film is..What do you do with an aging unemployed ex-boxer? Mountain Riviera who's played by Anthony Quinn wonders bars and employment agencies in search of work and warm company , and finds it in the tender arms of an agency employment worker, who feels for the aging boxer and tries desperately to find him a job.

  • Pretty accurate portrayal of the first black champ

This movie is a biography of the first black heavyweight champion of the world, Jack Johnson. In real life he was as assertive , cunning , loud and fearless, like depicted in the movie. He tried to get resume his boxing career but he had many setbacks. Many of these setbacks dealt with the fact that he was a Black man; in the 1900's the Whites did not want to have a black man as the heavyweight champion , so they tried to find the great "White hope" who would ultimately defeat Johnson and bring back the heavyweight title to the White man. James Earl Jones delivers quite a remarkable performance as Jack Johnson. Overall a very good biography movie.

  • Pretty bad for a Russ Meyer movie

Russ Meyer fans may be a little disappointed when they watch this movie, because there's only one storyline and that is of going around having sex with 1 or 2 people. It's kind of boring because there's not too much nudity and it's lacking some action. The story is about an uninhibited woman who is always craving for sex, but her impotent old husband cannot fulfill her sexual needs, so she goes out and has sex with this other guy named "stone" and continues to taunt her old husband....that he's nothing but a boring old fart who can't get it up.What I found really stupid about this movie is this "forest girl" who supposedly lives in the forests. It's pretty lame to put a "forest girl " type character wearing jungle clothes. The old man takes a car ride into the forests , he notices the "forest girl" and he starts making love to her. The ending of the movie is pretty predictable. For all you "early adult movie" fans , I recommend "Mondo Topless", that movie is full of topless girls running around and showcasing mother nature's most luscious assets
