  • American Icon Dick Clark's first appearance on Dec 31st 2005

I was looking forward to seeing Mr. Dick Clark on New Year's Eve as it is something I've done since his New Year's Eve celebration began. I always enjoyed his sense of humor and the way he would work the crowd. Last year I was saddened when I heard of his stroke, yet, all the news media made it seem like it wasn't a big deal, and that he'd be back to himself in no time. I was surprised that he was still struggling to speak last night, and that his voice was not his own. There were a couple of times where I thought I heard the vibrant Dick Clark speaking, and for that I was happy.

I don't think that many people actually thought he'd lose his ability to speak the way he has. I give him credit for ringing in the New Year the best way he could. Hopefully, 2006 will fully restore his speech, and his ability to be the same Dick Clark that we have all known and cared for over the past few years. Happy New Year to Dick Clark, and everyone!

  • The movie seemed to be a bit violent for a PG film

I did not feel that the movie was suitable for young children. It was disturbing to me the amount of violence and destruction that took place in Zathura. Usually with a PG movie the plot is pretty easy to figure out and understand it. I really don't believe that there was one in this film. I don't believe that the young children in the theater had any idea of what was happening in the movie. I think it would be better to tone down the violence so that the children might actually remember something like the importance of getting along with siblings, instead of a burning house flying through outer space. The older characters should have played more of a part in this movie to add balance to it. I felt as though one of the character's in the story actually took away from the theme of Zathura because the person really didn't fit into the storyline.

  • A cold film

I thought that this movie was absolutely cold. It was a gangster film, and it was always on the edge of violence; for instance one character actually dies, and they kept trying to kill the Will Smith character. The audience we sat with was very quiet throughout the entire movie. Usually, when we go to an animated film such as this, the audience is more lively, and responds to what's happening on the screen, not so with this production. It also is important that the character voice overs are just that, and no one to really root for. It seemed like the film kept the audience at arms length because there was no character growth or interest. This movie was obviously an allusion to the Godfather, which was not a comedy. They kept saying you are going to sleep with the fishes. It wasn't funny in the Godfather, and it wasn't funny here. This is supposed to be a kid's movie, remember? When will the kids movies actually be for the kids?
