  • 3 cartoons in one?

I remember this as 3 cartoons in one (a bit like the pink panther show) and was shown by the BBC in the mid-80s.

The first was Heathcliffe of course, who was a bit too much of a smartarse for my liking.

The third was Marmaduke. The opening theme tune was kind of sung by both and referred to them as a "team" I'm sure, but I don't recall them ever appearing together.

In between(?) was a cartoon about a family of dogs. Can't for the life of me think of the title, but it had a great theme tune.

Maybe I've confused the middle bit with another cartoon altogether, but they all seem related in my mind.

  • Mr Spoon has issues

My memories are hazy (apart from the great theme tune of course), but I seem to recall Mr Spoon would take a telescope with him on his sojourns and use it to spy on people back on "Earth".

I'm sure one such person was Mrs Spoon. Clearly Mr Spoon was a control freak or there was a fundamental lack of trust in their relationship.

And clearly Button Moon wasn't actually button-shaped or Mr Spoon would have fallen through the holes. And why was the moon named after him anyway?

Usually shown in the midday slot along with Rainbow or Let's Pretend.

  • LOL!

    Quote from Macmar's review:

"And with it being British, all the black actors are slaves, and non of them go to boarding school"

How many white slaves were there in the 18th century exactly?!!! Would you sooner they were played by a bunch of blacked-up white actors?

And I'm not too familiar with boarding schools, but I don't suppose you get very many black people going to them (as a proportion). If you thought the black headmaster was a token, a black student certainly would have been. At least they didn't have an American in the cast (Richard "4 weddings/Notting Hill" Curtis-style) to make the series sell-able to an overseas audience.

The only typically British thing is the boarding school setting itself. All the characters are by definition posh, rich and spoilt, which makes it hard to identify with them, let alone care.

Watchable, but don't expect more than two series at most.
