  • Massimo is not Matteo

For those of us, the fans of the series, this 14th series has been long awaited. The first reason is like many long running shows it becomes a part of your regular evening entertainment at a particular timeslot. But the secondary, and more important, is how will the new Don compare with the, correction, THE Don?

Here is the test, series 13 was the transition and now Raoul Bova (Don Massimo) has to stand on his own and fill the role of Don Matteo. Let me say that in my opinion he doesn't. But then again maybe he shouldn't and I think the writers didn't want him to so he lacks the compassion, the empathy and the pureness of Don Matteo. That's not a bad thing, though for me I wish Terence Hill was able to continue but age affects all of us. And that is the other aspect that will determine if this series 14 is a success, the age of the remaining cast members and if they can maintain their character enthusiasm going forward. For me the simiplistic "slap stick" humour is still there, and Maresciallo Nino Cecchini still causes blunders, we're off to a reasonable start.

  • The problems for Venice is fluid...

Most informed travelers will know of the gates called Mose, but the future problems beyond this fix are literally quite fluid. This documentary gives a wonderful insight into the complexity of the existence intact, going forward for Venice and the millions of tourists that travel there each year. In todays world of high tech via electronics (DaVinci was high tech without electronics), it was interesting that use of the past can help identify the current and future problems faced by Venetians. I thought I knew what was the problem and that Mose would solve it, yet due to erosion the situation continues to evolve...it is quite fluid.

I would recommend this documentary to all young and old.
