  • Teen Tripe, I loved it

This film is nothing more than a cheap melodramatic piece of crap, and I love it. The moving story of a young couple on the run. I was young and the worlds biggest Elton John fan when I saw it. I had the whole world before me, I was going out with a beautiful girl, (Named Sue) and I'm not sure if everyone can understand how great it is to listen to "Daniel" while your girlfriend rests on your arm in the soft twilights of the movie theatre.. but I hope they can. I would buy this film if I could find it, and happily agonize through it again, and again... It is a very romantic film in a very basil form... It works for old fogies like me, and teenagers. They won't recongnize all the music, but that won't matter. A great movie for a quiet evening with someone that you care about.

  • Powerful yet Abstract Appropriate for the Era

In a more down-to-earth expression of surrealism in the "2001" era, this film, with it's odd camera angles and peculiar story lines is ultimately an old western morality tale. The horses have been been replaced with Harleys. But the tale is familiar, yet not stale in this rendition. It is a match up between good-guy and bad-guy, with the familiar sub-plot of haggard hero versus jaded pseudo-villain. This was a ground breaking film for it's era, with it's unconventional format and (at the time) surprisingly violent content. Blake is adequate and convincing as our hero, but the story lines shallow simplicity is redeemed only by it's dramatic and moving direction. Plenty of action. Again, better than most of what you'll see on HBO.

  • Blake (and Quaid) Remarkable Performance (better than big screen)

Blake again affirms his remarkable dramatic abilities in a performance not surpassed since his legendary "In Cold Blood" portrayal of the real life Perry Edward Smith. His often understated portrayal of the loser protagonist is disturbing and moving. Quaid is exceptional in his role as the simple-minded side-kick, and if you only remember him from the "Vacation" films, you'll be amazed at his dramatic acting ability. This film captures the true essence of the Steinbeck spirit. It is a dramatic, touching story about hope, friendship, and it's ultimate cost. A true treasure, so much better than many of the feature films I've wasted $9.00 on at the movies lately. A must see.
