More than 10 years after the movie was release i thought of putting my comments here. DDLJ as popularly known has surely redefined Indian cinema and its characters. However to me its just another average romantic Indian movie. This movie if at all belongs to Aditya Chopra only. The characters played by srk and kajol could have been played by any other actors as well. Same old Hindi dialogues, same old styles and why do srk replay same and same actor again? The songs are good, melodramatic and touchy. Few scenes in the movies are worth commending. However few scenes like the end fighting sequence were simply useless. This movie did marked a new carrer for srk, kajol and aditya chopra. srk has become a rage among girls. however it would be good for srk not to ride high on this. he should look to aamir khan and leagues of people like Big B. there is a lot to learn from them.
Past few months have perhaps produced one of the best movies in Bollywood. Two names that quickly come to my are Rang de Basanti and . Black. Rang de basanti is inspiring and yet light. The chemistry between each characters including Sue was amazing to say the least. Aamir once again proved why is the best actor in Hindi cinema till date and he must have obviously silenced his critcs (those who favor Srk). Rang de basanti is a must watch for youth and all generations as it properly brings out the feeling that youth undergoes when faced with current realities of life. The screenplay, story and direction was flawless. Rakeysh Mehra though was very good with Aks but this time he stuck it right to the birds eye. Sure this will take him to league of big directors. As for Aamir he proved that any role, any character is a piece of cake for him. The way he shared the screen and yet stole the show proves that the actor is way beyond his peers. Having said that the performance by each of his costars was commendable. A modern patriotic film, it is sure to set you thinking about our responsibility towards our country. Do not miss it.
Hindi Cinema at its best creating an entirely new definition of entertainment and giving a work of art that transcends every given qualification of the motion-picture experience. Its a story of Michelle and her teacher. Michelle is a girl who is deaf and blind. We first enter little Michelle's pitch-black world with Debraj. The relationship that grows between the impossibly difficult little girl (debutante Ayesha Kapoor, playing Rani's childhood portions ) and the equally difficult teacher is underscored by an immense and acute irony. As Debraj makes Michelle 'see' into the light through her blindness, he goes blind and finally loses his mind. In the most heart-wrenching moments of the film, Michelle rattles the chains that are put on her guru to prevent him from causing himself bodily harm . The film actually belongs to Amitabh Bachchan. It's impossible to imagine any actor playing Debraj , the tutor of manic proportions raging into the darkness like a Shakespearean tragic-hero . To say this is Bachchan's finest ever isn't enough. For, what he has done with his character in Black is to endow Indian cinema with a flavour of flamboyant excellence, unparalleled by anything we've seen any actor from any part of the world do or say...The way Bachchan has used that well-known baritone has to be heard to be believed. Dropping his voice to a whisper he raises it again to challenge destiny, and toast immortality. Rani Mukherjee as the blind and deaf protagonist looks and acts as though she was born specially to do what she has to in Black. Mukherjee opens the petals of her histrionics to give one of the most nuanced performances ever by a female actor. Black isn't a film that we can categorize or classify. It creates a new genre in itself. Rays of light pierce the black darkness of the protagonist's life and permeate into our lives to bathe us in a feeling of rapturous contentment never experienced in cinema before. An Oscar winning movie!!!
