  • a haunting myth that anyone can connect with on some level

I stumbled across this film late one night, as if i had stumbled into a dream, one i couldn't draw myself from.

The lack of set puts all emphasis on the long monologues, which are delivered with such riveting feeling that the character's words fail not to touch you in someway. The script seems split between drawing from reality's loneliness and hurt, and poetry's cutting imagery and sentiment, which altogether creates some haunting myth. The entire cast (numbering but three and including a fabulous Miranda Richardson)are thoroughly engaging-Mike Nickols carries the film admirably-their characters seem locked in the retelling of the story, utterly lost in the memories and who can help but reflect the feelings of identity and loneliness upon themselves.

  • engaging and action packed

You never really know what Bourne is doing until he's done it, and that's why the bourne supremacy manages to be so engaging. Though sporadic and disjointed at times, with fast editing and climatic music it manages to be one long adrenaline ride that just keeps pushing. Matt Damon continues as the ex-agent at war with himself and his lack of identity, with good performances from Karl urban as a ruthless assassin and the splendid Joan Allan as a CIA official.

'There's always an objective, always a target' and it doesn't seem to be that different from the Bourne Identity but it does showcase the charisma of Matt Damon and provide an expectation for the Bourne Legacy.

  • insightful realism that pains

The good girl takes a slow, intrinsic journey, reminiscent of the escapism films of the 70's, like Kes and Darling, though this southern yarn puts a modern twist on the 'escape from the mundane' theme with insightful, heartfelt and wonderfully quotable dialogue. Jennifer Aniston as the worn down Justine is very believable, and opens a window on the reality of life that is always hidden, with her slurred epiphanies and cool contemplativeness. Jake Gyllenhaal is like wise suited to his role as Holden, obsessive loser and endearing youth with his mournful eyes and pouting lips.

With subtle and clever comedy moments, the good girl is an intelligent film with an ambiguity that is both unsatisfying and compelling.
