So, I think I am the first review for this movie. There's no summery but I think this is the right Strange Fruit. Its the documentary. I saw it at SXSW.
Strange Fruit was alright. My mom was a immigrant, so I can understand what this movie is trying to say about race stuff and being poor. My mom raised me and my sisters all on her own. So I feel them in that way for sure. But the movie has like two stories going on at the same time which I didn't really get and I was either wanting to know one or the other and definitely wanting to know more about the kid that died's family. I feel like they didn't have had enough for a whole feature length movie so just added in the other story to make it longer or something. The main story never becomes the mystery you think its going to be. There are no good guys or bad guys. They all just seemed pathetic to me thats all.
There's some nice images and emotional moments though, and the characters are interesting enough. I don't know if this will be on TV or play in a theater again (I saw this at SXSW) or if they can still change things. Because it was too long. I think I would have liked it more as a short, because at a hour and a half, it was dragged on too much.

I just saw this at SXSW. I barely got in and I was curious as hell after reading that earlier post. I just have to say I totally agree with it about the ending of this movie! That was a mad turn I was so not expecting. The acting was really good for a horror movie, which usually has pretty pathetic acting, and the story was good, their lines weren't all cheeseball. (Have you seen Boogyman!??)
So without giving anything away, its basically about this group of three guys and two girls that are going to Burning Man, and they get stuck in the desert at this motel. But then all this sick sh*t starts happening which they cant figure out what is going on, with this weird smell that is around at the motel, that, and they find some weird stuff scratched on the furniture like help me and stuff from some other guests. Its like this vapory kind of smell thing right before really freaky scary sh*t happens. Which I guess is why its called Reeker, it reeks. Its especially scary when the blind dude can smell it but then he doesn't know where he is because he dropped this rope he had to hold on to and can't escape. That part, and a part with the blond girl in the bathroom totally made me jump. Oh, and there are a couple of really freaky special effects, with this dog all cut in half and some other things that are really gross that scared the hell out of me.
Of course they have the typical horror movie couple thing and the blond chick and one of the dudes hook up in the motel room and then the other chick hooks up with the other dude but what do you expect. Anyway, I would definitely recommend this movie if you like horror movies that have a creepy unexpected end like Sixth Sense or Scream. Its worth seeing, one of the better horror movies I've seen for sure. But definitely bring a friend or a bf/gf because you might be bugged out a little after.
