  • Mediocre

Much of this show is very mediocre. Pedestrian and obvious. Guests help to lift it at times, guests like Rhys Nicholson, Judith Lucy, Margaret Pomeranz help and almost make it worth watching. Charlie has lost his edge, that is if ever had one. I usually watch in the hope that Rhys Nicholson will be on. Tom Gleeson was funnier than Charlie but he's gone. The ' you're cancelled' slot is silly and worn out. I think Charlie Pickering has done his dash and ought to call it a day. Utopia is real satire. For this show to call itself satire is stretching the definition to its limits. I'm over it. Zzzzz.

  • Glossy Soap

West Wing made simple. Unconvincing plot. Unconvincing characters. The partnerships are unrealistic, no chemistry. The characters are two dimensional. I thought I was watching West Wing for idiots. All too glossy and polished in the wrong way. Rufus Sewell character too nice and always in the way. I watched it on a recommendation and spent the whole series waiting for it to get interesting. It reminded me of those 60s things like the Saint or the Champions. I wouldn't have bothered if I had known it would make West Wing look credible. If you have something else to watch I'd pick that first. American schmaltz.

  • Gripping but contrived

Main character, by Jody Comer was acting as well as plot allowed but the plot was dreadfully contrived and mostly was not credible. The final episode was ludicrous with so much that couldn't have happened. It was more comic book than skilled narrative. The combination of happy endings in the relationships was disappointing. They'd have worked better if they'd failed.

What we have here are good actors with a poorly crafted plot. Police were two dimensional, indeed most of the characters lacked depth.

Having said this, suspense was enough to keep me watching. I just wish that the denouement had been more considered.
