A Seriocomic Testament to Problems with Teens

10
  • Feb 19, 2009
  • A very well-composed short

This short combines fact with humor. It does so in a way that makes one laugh and learn at the same time. Not only that, but it includes a music video at the end of one of America's rising teen bands, playing their hit songs. If this movie could have been nominated for the Oscar, it would have. Unfortunately, the true talent in acting and musical composing was not recognized until too late. If I could, I would give this piece a 20/10, because it is a true modern classic. I watch this video over and over again, especially the part with the song. Though young, these multi-talented teens have a lot to grow upon. I can't wait to see what else this comic duo comes up with.

  • A worthy remake

Normally i do not like remakes but the Longest Yard showed me that, though a remake can never match the original, they can still be pretty good. Peter Segal managed to make a decent movie here. Sheldon Turner's new screenplay was funny and exciting. Though there wasn't enough character development, i still enjoyed this. I had one problem with casting, though. Adam Sandler does not seem like a former NFL qb. With such big names the acting should be good and it was. Sandler, Rock, and Reynolds were all superb in this movie. The supporting actors including Nelly and Michael Irvin were also good. Teddy Castellucci's musical score reminded me of Holes, especially when Sandler was on the bus. I enjoyed the shots of the prison in the desert and the big game was well shot. Overall cinematography by Dean Semler was good. Though The Longest Yard cannot match the original, it is still a worthy remake worth seeing.

  • Almost funny

Going to see Shaolin Soccer, i had absolutely no expectations for this movie. And that turned out to be true. For 87 minutes i sat, with a smile on my face, viewing this time waster. Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer didn't impress me, nor did it make me disgusted. The story by Chow and Tsang was a classic underdog sports story with a twist-karate! I mean come on! Karate? It may be original, but the script just added on stupidity after stupidity. The movie was pretty funny, but not enough to get me roaring with laughter. Also, though this might be because of the version i watched, the brief love story seemed pretty weak. Though i am not a real good judge on foreign acting, i would say the actors did a great job. Stephen Chow and Man Tat Ng really shone. Zhao and Tse also performed well. And of course, Hui Li was fantastic slipping on a banana peel. I wasn't impressed with the music by Lowell Lo and Raymond Wong. There was nothing special with the cinematography by Kwen and Kwong. Overall, a slightly funny, but idiotic film.
