'Temple' is a new television show to me but it's a terrific and entertaining find. You definitely have to suspend your disbelief, something I find difficult with certain shows but the writing and acting in 'Temple' makes it very easy to do.
Mark Strong, Daniel Mays and Carice van Houten are all outstanding actors anyway and they are wonderfully sharp in this show. It's a great drama with many comedic elements and is also a little surreal at times. It has elements 'Fargo' and 'Santa Clarita Diet' without being a copy or retread.
Although it's completely unrealistic, it certainly draws you in and makes you sympathetic to the characters.
I've only seen the first series but I am, without doubt, definitely hooked and am looking forward to the second series.

I really do not understand why people are comparing this unrealistic drivel to "The West Wing", there is not the slightest similarity in any way whatsoever.
"The West Wing" was one of the greatest pieces of television ever made. The cast, writing, direction and camera-work were all first class. Yes, it was idealistic and there has never, ever been such a liberal President of the United States, but it tackled serious subjects in a serious way.
This doesn't. There is certainly some excellent acting but the writing is laughable. The character of Hal is ridiculous and there is no way Kate would still tolerate his ridiculous and, frankly, dangerous behaviour.
The idea that the UK would be the dangerous, cavalier government, rather than the USA, is laughable. I suspect the majority of the 9 and 10 star ratings have come from Americans.

There's much to enjoy when you watch this television programme but there are a few really annoying things as well.
The acting, for the most part is top notch with one or two exceptional performances. Tessa Peake Jones, in particular, is an absolute joy to watch. The production design is also outstanding with marvelous period detail and outstanding settings. Many of the stories deal with pertinent issues of the period such as racism, homosexuality and drugs. Much like today, in fact.
A couple of the irritating aspects are the Americanisms that are central to the plotting. The idea that a civilian would be used as, basically, a Detective Constable, and have full access to the investigation is laughable. I know it's central to so many American cop shows where the police are portrayed as complete idiots but it doesn't happen here. Another annoying aspect is the voiceover sermon at the end.
