Let me start by saying that this movie really is quite entertaining. You could then say, it would be very bad if it wasn't, I mean with this cast! Very rarely does this amount of A-list actors participate in the same movie, and Director Richard Curtis knows his way around a comedy.
It's all taking place around Christmas, starting five weeks before Christmas Eve. Depending on your taste, it's not very christmassy.
In segments spread all over the film, you follow people in different places in their lives, most of them with a somewhat nice life, but nearly all with problems stacked away, intil they appear and action is needed.
Some segments are quite fun but if you think it over, in most of them the stories are really unrealistic.
No one in the cast falls through, but some does a really good job. First of all you have to mention Bill Nighy, if he's there he always steals the whole film. The most fun segment is played by Martin Freeman and Joanna Page, as stand ins in a porno film.
Also honorable mentions to Laura Linney, Colin Firth and Rowan Atkinson in a small part as jewel salesman. All in all you will not feel that you've lost two hours of your life.

This is surely a different kind of Christmas movie. It has a wonderful cast but the reason that it really doesn't hit home is because it's much too short.
These days many movies last more than two hours, and this one could surely have used that extra half hour. Directed by Chazz Palminterri, an actor (a good one) turned director. He should have given the audience a chance to know the prople in the movie better. Because of the lack of knowledge you don't really feel the oroblems the persons go through.
The story contains stories of reincarnation, controlling behaviour, loss of newborn baby, mistreated child all put together in 90 minutes. If one of the stories, could have been the "broken-arm-guy" story, could have been left off, that would have helped.
