I remember when this movie was being made, I was working on another movie at the time with Sheila White, & like everybody at the time went to see it in the hope that I could identify with it. Although a good story & well acted by all in the movie it lacked something. It should have been shot in London & maybe then it would have captured more of the spirit of the time. What it does have however is a good example of youth growing up & the adventure that the male lead goes on. I still watch this film every year & I wouldn't be without a copy. It has become an essential part of the epoch that it represents with some very funny scenes, notably Capable Caroline & her family where Jamie spends a weekend. Judy Geeson has the female lead & she looked great, I worked with her many years later & we talked about the movie. She told me how the director held her hand in the rushes theatre the day they watched the nude scenes & we laughed, he seemed rather anxious as to what I would think about it, she said. Over all I like the film & it is a must have.

It is true to say that this movie is not good, to say the least. But it does capture some of the craziness of the time.1968 was a very good time to be young & living in London, as I was. I also worked on the dubbing of this movie at Shepperton Film Studios. It still brings back good memories of the time & I wouldn't be without a copy, which took me a long time to find. The girls in the movie were quite well known at the time, one of them became the late Peter Cook's second wife, & all of them were attractive. David Anthony The mail lead was also an icon of the time, with many girls pinning his picture to their bedroom wall. The Dome in the film was built at Frencham Ponds in Surrey & there is nothing of it left.

In many ways the movie depicts the beginnings of women asserting themselves & being seen to be in control of their lives in a much more controlled way than the previous generation. The plot is simple; four girls capture a pop star & have their wicked way with him. There are other influences in the movie with gangsters & a well known wrestler of the time. What is immediately striking is that all the girls speak good English with educated accents, something that is sadly lacking in English movies of this type today. This movie is not an icon, as in "Wonderwall" for example, but it does have something.

I think this is a great film. I have had a copy since it was broadcast on the BBC in 1980. The copy has now migrated to DVD & been cleaned up on the way. I last saw a copy on VHS at FNAC in Paris in 1998, it certainly did not make DVD. It is a warm French farce with a happy ending & all you could expect from a bunch of french families on holiday for the month of August in a Brittany hotel on the beach. The acting is good and the director really captured the french attitude to food, family, drink, and holidays. The month of August is the month that ninety percent of families take off & in this film there is a very interesting bunch of characters and there are several threads to the plot of the movie, all of which run their course & tie up at the end. I have seen some of the cast since in other movies, but in this film the interplay between the characters is excellent. I still watch this film every year.
