Thought it was pretty terrible. Jack was jack (again) Leo looks like a child and wouldn't last minutes in this scene. As a thriller it didn't thrill and nowhere was there any real visual flourishes ....and please Martin stop using the rolling stones, it doesn't give your film any more depth.
This is one of those films were men stand around making grand speeches, indulge in some violence and all take it very seriously and critics fall over themselves when really its dull, dull , dull.
This is no 'Goodfellas'
PLease speak up anyone who agress as I am sure I will have a few people who disagree with me on this board.
THe only plus for me was that it wasn't as terrible as 'Gangs of New York' or as dull as 'The Aviator'

After seeing the truly dreadful 'The Hills Have Eyes' last week, it was great to go and see the kind of film Hollywood can do brilliantly....the heist movie.
The story was brilliantly constructed, Spike Lee directed with ease and flair, but for me the best parts were Terence Blanchards wonderful score and Denzel and Jodie! they were just great together, real chemistry in their few scenes. I have never been a huge fan of Washington since i find he acts with a sense of smugness and has never been able to pull of 'romantic' and although Foster is usually great, she is not known though for relaxed and sexy.
Well she is incredibly sexy here and after Panic Room and Flighplan, its great to see her not locked in somewhere. Its real departure and she should do these kinds of roles more often and Denzel is just great and there is a real sense of attraction between them.
The only negative in the film is Clive Owens accent - what was it meant to be?

I have just watched one of the worst films I may have ever seen. Schrader is not a director, certainly not one who should be allowed to direct a film with elements of horror, tension, style or good acting (apart Skarsgard)
Regardless of the effects (truly terrible) the story is interesting, but the way its presented is just shocking. From the artless camera angles to dreadful performances (Clara Bellar and Billy Crawford who is hilarious) flat cinematography and the final piece of goth rock over the final credit this film is an utter mess.
For once the studio was right to junk it.
