If you read the other reviews here on IMDB you will get the impression that this movie is amazing. Great cast, great story, great acting, great sets. And I agree, it's all those things, however there is one thing that bugs me.
The main villain. I think Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell) is a great villain....but not enough cruel and calculated. (small spoiler?) There is a certain scene towards the end where you can see he shows a sort of emotional weakness, and it's not anger, but a feeling of inferiority. I would've liked he remained this kind of unapologetic, mostly, one-dimensional villain. He has the looks, he has the attitude, just wished they didn't include that scene, or made him more poker faced.

I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan, I think he plays the same role in most movies (some good exceptions though), and this film is not very different. Well, maybe not all throughout the film.
Tom Cruise's character grows and evolves throughout the movie in a well paced manner that is not too obvious to make you roll your eyes when he obviously evolves into the action hero we all know.
The action of the movie is good, the premise while not super original is enjoyable to watch unfold, the actors play their roles well. Maybe too well since one of my issues with this film is the fact that I wished they got more screen time.
I did not expect to like this film so much but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at the end.
