I was drawn to the first film by Joaquin Phoenix ' maniacal transfixing laugh .His gestures and personality were fascinating .Even when I heard this second one was going to be a musical , I dutifully turned out , how could Phoenix fail ? His acting didn't , his singing and dancing didn't .But the script ? It let him down , it let us all down .Was there any point during the making of it ,where Phoenix himself wondered ,wasn't this storyline taking us away from the original brilliance of Joker ? The horror of him which you couldn't turn away from , the insanity , the shocking nonchalance of his audacious crimes ? That's what we all turned up for , wasn't it ? How sad then , it turned into a parody almost , of the Jokers previous madness .And to discover that he really wasn't the Joker hardman after all .A sad ending which fell far short of expectations ,despite Gaga's and Phoenix best attempts to deliver an equally mesmerising film as it's predecessor .The script however ,couldn't be overcome .
