Looks like Ron Howard has sunk to a new low. Show starts out with a couple having sex in a supply room at a FOB, then transitions into a bare knuckle fighting match, then a soldier who's selling rugs and gets killed. From there
we find a soldier who's trying to run scams, one who's trying to trade medical supplies for drugs, all while disobeying orders. And just to make it a little more tacky, about every tenth word is the "F" word. Not a very good way to show support for our troops in Afghanistan. In fact the military has very little to do with the storyline. Definitely a big letdown.
If you like action and adventure, but don't care about realism, then this might be the show for you. In the first half hour of the show they show so many policy violations that the entire team would be on restricted duty. Uniform officers with beards, pulling the SWAT vehicle right into the middle of the shooting scene, no backup and closing off of the area, firing the team leader without any investigation or trial board, and the last I knew LAPD does not accept lateral transfers, so Officer Street would have to go through the Academy, break in, be off probation, then apply for SWAT and pass all the testing, and that doesn't cover all the violations! I wish the show well, but I don't expect it to became a docudrama of truth.
Despite my better judgment, thought I'd check out this movie because I like Kurt Russell and Westerns. Other than Kurt's performance, and one scene at the end, the movie was terrible. Acting was OK, but the story and directing were terrible. Definitely a waste of my money to see. My wife is a big Kurt Russell fan, so she wanted to see it, and even she thought it stunk. If this only had 5 stars for rating, I'd give it a 1.5. So almost three hours of waiting for it to get good and it never really happened. They take hours to lay out the storyline, then the last 20 minutes to wrap it up. Some of the main characters are eliminated too early making you wonder where they are going to go for the rest of the movie. Considering it was written and directed by the same person, I won't waste my time seeing any of his other movies. Haven't really cared for his previous movies either, and won't be seeing any of his future movies, if he even has any.
