Pesadilla para un rico

  • An average movie with plenty of misunderstandings, black humor and silly confusion.

The powerful financier named Álvaro de la Garza (Carlos Larrañaga) married to a beautiful woman (Carmen Elias) and with two daughters, meets the young girl Mane (Beatriz Rico). From now on, his life takes a different course and his peaceful existence is threatened when he becomes the victim of a twisted plot, full of intrigue, error, blackmail and presumed murder.

Adept at accepting any assignment unrelated to his interests, Fernando Fernán Gómez, who reserved a small role for himself, directs this not entirey satisfactory film. This director has made some unteresting movies, along with others of great appeal, which usually tell stories of his own and of his íntimately personal conscience. This time, the bland, weak storyline by none other than Luis Alcoriza, -Luis Buñuel's regular writer-, a director and writer exiled in Mexico, leaves much to be desired. Here the collaboration between Fernando Fernán Gómez and Luis Alcoriza was average. Thus, the script was updated and suitably reestructured by Fernando Fernán Gómez himself, but even the results were not good. Unfortunately, the director fails to nail the style, or rhythm of the story, which goes from becoming a slow-burning thriller with brief bursts of terror, to becoming an ungainly tragicomedy farce. Meanwhile, throughout, he develops a disorganized narrative based on a presumed modernism consisting of scenes imagined in black and white, tilted shots and a lousy abusive use of voice-overs.

The motion picture was mediocrely directed by Fernando Fernán Gómez, having a lot of flaws, gaps and shortfalls. Prestigious actor/director Fernando appeared in more than 200 films, and directed another 20, and wrote novels, plays and poetry. He was a member of the Spanish Royal Academy and one of the best actors in film history. Along with Iciar Bollain, he's only person to have been nominated as performer (El Abuelo, 1999) , director (Viaje a ninguna parte, 1986) and writer (Lázaro de Tormes, 2001) for three different movies at the Goya Awards. He actually won in every category at least once. Fernando was a prolific and important actor and also directed a few films, such as: "Lázaro de Tormes", "Fuera de juego", "Mambru se fue a la guerra", "5 tenedores", "5.000 días juntos", "Ninette", "Venganza de Don Mendo", "El extraño viaje" and, of course, his greatest hit, Viaje a ninguna parte". " Pesadilla para un rico" score: 4.5/10,

  • An enjoyable and uneven heist comedy featuring two great figures of American film.

Oscars winners Matt Damon and Casey Affleck star in this crime-comedy thriller. In it, two petty criminals, Rory (Matt Damon), a desperate, suicidal father, and Cobby (Casey Affleck who wrote/produced as well), an ex-convict who was wrongfully imprisoned, find themselves caught up in a criminal caper, forcing them to team up to pull off a hold-up led by an evil, clandestine boss named Mr. Besegai (Michael Stuhlberg) and his henchman Richie (Alfred Molina). However, things go awry, a robbery of a corrupt politician on election night doesn't go as planned, and later on, they tea,m up with an unlikely accomplice. The two unfortunate delinquents are relentlessly by police, criminal gangs, and other riffraff eager to get their hands on the loot. Along with them, other individuales involved in the mess, such as a vengeful boss, corrupt officials (Ving Rhames) and other low-life offspring.

A picture of the "Buddy Movie" genre, including the usual ingredients: frenetic action, confusion, car chases with chaotic escapades, and plenty of fun. Written by Casey Affleck himself and packing a humor worthy of buddy movies, and featuring all-out racing, pranks, crossfire, getaways and explosions, it surreptitiously critiques US politics. Protagonists display attractive interpretations, it stars Matt Damon as the serious, deeply desperate father who needs quickly a certain amount of money and he will do anything to get it, at whatever cost; alongside screenwriter, producer and Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck as the ex-convict who was incarcerated in order to save his beloved brother, secrificing himself for him. The third in discord is the unknown Hong Chau playing a psychologist or expert in personal therapy, as she becomes an unexpected ally who will give them a little common sense. Along with them, a good support cast of likeable roles, more or less recognized by the general public, such as: Ron Perlman, Alfred Molina, Michael Stuhlberg, Jack Harlow and Toby Jones.

Resulting in conclusion, it is a bombastic comedy of robberies with sparkling dialogue and some silly or implausible situations, taking advantage and profit from the difference of the characters performed by two of the best actors in American cinema.

This unvenly made movie, with weak pacing at times, was professionally made by Doug Liman. He's an expert on action comedies, he has written, producted or directed various films, often with famous actors, such as: "Mr and Mrs Smith" with Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, " Swingers" with Vince Vaughn, John Favreau; thrillers like "Roadhouse" with Jake Gyllenhaal, Connor McGregor, "Fair Game" with Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, "Jason Bourne" with Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sci-Fi like " Edge of tomorow" with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Ultimately, " The instigators" is an acceptable and passable movie, but not remarkable, being especially recommended for the unrepentant enthusiasts of the two well-known protagonists, Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, delighting their fans, since they literally bright on the screen with their jokes.

  • A nostalgic y reminiscent film, recommended for fans of the original series.

The film is set in the known city of Deadwood, South Dakota, long time ago it was a town of crime, a lawless sinkhole and full of corruption, until the arrival of Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant). Into this uncivilized outpost ride came a disillusioned and bitter ex-lawman called Will Bill Hickok and Set Bullock, a man hoping to find a new start for himself. Both men find themselves quickly on opposite sides of the legal man, moral fence from Al Swearengen (Ian McShane), saloon owner, hotel operator, and incipient boss of Deadwood. The lives of these three men interwine with many others. "Deadwood: The movie" is set in 1889, the events are unfold about ten years after the series ended, as dignitaries and most of the series regulars gather together to celebrate South Dakota's statehood. When senator George Hearst (Gerard McRaney) makes an offer for his property claim, and Charlie Utter (Dayton Calle) declines, the results are explosive and things go wrong.

"Deadwood" returs to TV production HBO as a movie, with old acquaintances in a new world in which the frontier settlement has become a modern city and is about to become a state ...for better or for worse. The series and the film are also notable for introducing historical Western characters such as Calamity Jane, Will Bill Hickock, and the right-of-wrongs sheriff Seth Bullock. The film is decent enough, with the usual characters, but in a twilight style, so some of the beloved roles either die of sickness or are simply killed off. Dealing with the people existence, both high-minded and low-lives who populate the noisy town of Deadwood. For all of which we can clearly speak of a definitive farewell, having an eminently nostalgic predisposition and preferably aimed at the die-hard enthusiasts of the classic television series. The series is made up of 36 episodes, in three seasons, stars Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Molly Parker, Brad Dourif, Earl Brown, Paula Malcomson, John Hawkes, Leon Rippy, William Sanderson, Robin Weigert, Jeffrey Jones, Anna Gunn, Sean Bridges, Kim Dickens, all roles repeat their characters in the movie, exception for the deceased Powers Boothe or Titus Welliver, adding Gerald McRaney as an ambitious, nasty senator who faces off Dayton Calle and after sheriff Seth Bullock/Timothy Olyphant.

The movie written by TV series showrunners David Milch and Bryan Law, was well and professionally directed by Daniel Minahan. The latter has directed various episodes of notorious TV series, such as: "Marco Polo", "Homeland", "Ray Donovan", "Newsroom", "Fellow travellers", "Game of thrones", "American Crime Story", "True Blood", "House of Cards", among others. "Deadwood: The Movie" rating: 6.5/10.
