I found it difficult to watch this. I am a 68 year old gay man who grew up in the US South. It took me moving away before I could feel safe and comfortable.
Watching this raised all those fears and scars of the little boy that is still within me.
I regret to say that hatred of people different than ourself is not just being accepted as normal but is being encouraged by so many forces in our society.
Please watch this and tell your friends and family to do so and especially if you are not someone who sees someone like you in the film. The more different the people in the film are to you, the more important it is for you to watch this.

Mysteries are my favorite since a librarian gave me a Sherlock Holmes novel when I was a child. So I enjoyed this series for the first part of the first season. But the longer it went (I'm finishing S3 now) the more I found myself fast forwarding through the melodramatic filler and other sloppy writing. The poor script was impossible for some decent actors to save. How often can you scream, cry, and over-act to make something watchable. Weaker actors just look stupid trying to pull off a melodramatic nightmare of a script. Even the music began to get on my nerves as it tried to make the story-line palatable.
The twists and turns and turning characters good, bad, back to good, back to bad was more cheap tricks to extend a story that just didn't have enough muscle on it to survive.
How this continued to be renewed and other programs got cancelled is beyond me.

I really wanted to watch this show. I got through the first season and part of the second before I had to give up. Almost as soon as the episode began I could tell you the story line. It is the most pathetic writing (or should I say re-hashing already written) stories I've seen. It was almost like AI was writing as it showed no imagination or creative elements.
The actors, for the most part, did an outstanding job. That was what kept me involved and connected to the show. Rob Lowe was his usual extraordinary professional. And to be honest I would not have begun watching if he hadn't been involved.
And it is saying something when even a star like Lowe can't save a show.
