Absolutely loved the script and acting for the first two seasons, the exaggeration and weirdness in their character were captivating. The interactions between parties effortless. Started to look forward when Season three came out, but what happened in Season 3?! Their acting turned disingenuous as if they forgot to act, including Georgia that was brilliant turned so fake! It wasn't until Season 3 Episode 7 where some of their chemistry returned
and the dynamics between characters got so awkward in Episode 1-6.5, just so lacking as if they couldn't get into character. I don't know why many posts kept bashing Ginny. She's brilliant in general. Many posts wrote about her being emotional and whiny but hello?! That is how a confused child raised by troubling mother in this script was meant to be portrayed. Almost gave up watching until S3E7 redeemed itself a bit to keep hanging on. So I shall see how it goes if S4 is worth my time.
Somehow the exiting of Yasuda, changed the dynamics among the 1st-year new interns of 2024 into a sleep-fest now. Individually still decently portrayed but it lost so much pep as the interns. They had to fill her in by having Molly as Kwan's love. Even the scripts that ensued after her exit were just poorly written. Locker spats, affairs, friendships all went downhill. The original cast's new interns had that pep that made their Grey's Anatomy scenes believable Ellen, Yang, .... so unique. The season 20 new interns brought back same excitement of season 1. Oh well, unless they bring back Yasuda!
Once first episode started, it was apparent the directing style mimicked the popular The Murder In The Building. Including editing. The humor is an attempt to be British which I absolutely love but the script dragged it too long losing the audience. Some characters were way too exaggerated like the chef without spoiling the plot. There were way too many characters with intent to thicken the plot. Never seen Inspector's prior successful career on Netflix but typically best quirky inspector roles had unique traits about them, such as Columbo, Sherlock Holmes, Vera, Professor T, ... what only made her unique was bird watching (a symbol for keen observer) and nothing more. I do like the miniature figures of the White House, the Christmas scene.. I think the script was plausible such as when they contrast certain birds pertaining to similarities to the murder plots... Maybe if they had better casting for certain characters this would've been better. The best character cast was actually the person who got murdered (without saying who it is to not spoil)! Watch if you must because it seems to have risen to top most watched list series. But IMO it lost us as it dragged on and wrong chemistry (not Romance dept) in casting just didn't work for me.
Many series have flawed cops portrayed to show their personality. Some become their signature and a draw towards their investigation leading to crime solved such as Vera, etc.. But The Bay just makes both female lead in Episode 1-2, 3+ hatable like Debbie Downers. You just want to kick them to the curb like "get a grip" cause your character wouldn't lead to cases even being solved. The female lead in episodes 3 and up was such a likable, smart, wise character when she was in White Collar. In The Bay, however, her flaws are annoying, can't simply see any possibility she could get her act together. Seriously poor script.
I hated the main character, where the prime detective DI Lennox is vulgar, dismissive, with a mouthful of xys's, but once you start watching it, it hooks you in, cause it has brilliant good script which is lacking these days in most, intertwined with more shady characters, unable to differentiate the good and bad. It dares to go to the dark side of those that ought to be good as the script explores human frailty precisely where US shows fails to reveal. The plot thickens and I was sold. This show is among the very few well written crime shows like Vera, the Forgotten... Must watch. Wished they had more seasons, but the ending was satisfying.
Read the spoiler from some other's post here but don't waste your energy watching the last two episodes that completely threw off all the build ups in previous Part I and Part IIs. The plot didn't make much sense. Even Isabel and Jean-Guy's acting was overly exaggerated towards the end. All acting like poor losers. Like what just happened to these cops when they just fell apart, disintegrated. Worst part is what many here were complaining - lousy ending!! Many French films have unresolved feelings but this Canadian ending didn't leave us suspended, instead, it left one wished you never started the entire series when Episode 1-6 were not too bad. Worth watching as it evolves.
There are so many exceptional movies to watch. Same genre, same theme, same outcome, .. but other than two attractive main characters that wasn't the best in acting in my opinion, the plot could've been better written. As soon as one day's life event was over, the rest was predictable. Just when one expects more developing plots, there ain't any but the usual twists. There really wasn't a plot-very flat line! So many exceptional movie out there, move on and don't waste your time. I only watched due to good rating but I disagree with the plain storyline had anything to sell on spending time watching this one.
The 1st season was so suspenseful and all the characters shined throughout each episode. It's different than Murder In The Building on Hulu but brilliantly written by Christopher Miller and acted by amazing ensemble. I was looking forward to second season and even the 1st episode of Season two wasn't interesting so I continued due to loving the entire 1st Season and written by same author. But it just didn't deliver. Casting of Poppy Liu as Grace was poor, and many stellar cast members that typically are brilliant in their other shows just fell flat on their acting here. I would have said 2/10 stars for Season 2.
Admittedly at times one didn't know where the movie storyline was going and certain areas did not transition well as if a bit disconnected. But make no mistake, this is a true Cinderella story of a lost abandoned forgotten individual through unsuspected turn of events was transformed. A very good movie.
Not giving it away but first series was intriguing. The 2nd Season's script is so horrible, it's a waste of one's time. The plot was poorly written with no twist just bunch of straight forward pursuits that wasn't interesting. What a waste of time. But if you have spare time, the 1st Season is worth it if you like "Vera" series.
I thought I was missing something and three episodes in, I threw in the towel. Waste of time. Remove all the best elements of a good murder mystery series. Not even authentic or suspenseful. Don't bother to waste your time.
I followed Grey's Anatomy from episode to episode and when producers decided to make May 2 2019 a cross over between Grey's Anatomy and Shonda Rhimes, I had to watch the show. What a disappointment. Bad acting and poor script. Such a disappointment. Glad I never watched another episode. Will just stick to my Grey's Anatomy show only.
Great chemistry between the two agents. Creative acting by the side kicks. Fun 007 like scenes throughout some episodes. The only gripes I have are the Doubles doesn't do a good job in the fighting scenes for Frankie, and Ana Ortiz does not fit the role of Susan, however great Ana Ortiz was in Ugly Betty. Ana Ortiz is a miss casting for this role, and does not fit in well as a team--the casting needs to select a different person to play Susan.
Not sure how long the series can keep up with the fun plots and interesting 007 like pursuits. Hope so, because I like this show so far.
Alan Cumming is so talented that I don't know how he agreed to such poor scripts/plots, and acting alongside the pretty Bojana Novakovic who can't act is a poor reflection on him.
The worst part is not even the acting but the plots are so obvious and there are no twists and suspense. Makes this a dud show. I tried to watch it for three episodes and I am done. None of the Side characters weekly are good at acting which makes the casting horrible. Not even convincing or believable. I am a big fan of all the BBC crime shows and they have good acting, even CBS Elementary and CBS Blue Bloods ain't so bad as a more recent new comers.
But this show is waste of time. I like Alan Cumming so much that I tried to give it three chances, and this is their final chance. I'm signing off this show permanently. I hope viewers jump back to watch CBS Elementary as it's a much better written and acting than this crime show.
